seen @ custom toy show, montreal (oct 4)

and so camiondepompier's Montreal Custom Toy Show [blogged] launched Oct 4th and Olivier has customed-BUDs and Nades up on his flickr [all images via] featuring works from folks like NVC Crew / Omen / Fantom / Fred Caron / Rémy Larochelle / Dale Hayward / Tyson / Frenchie / Dulciane Desautels and more (if im missing out your names - do forgive me and feel free to list them in this post's comments-section please, thanks!)

i had a quick post-event chat with Olivier Petitpas [store owner_co-organizer of CTS]
about the show launch and what's up for the rest of 2007 = /// CLICK HERE TO READ

TOYSREVIL: first off, congrats for the show-launch, Olivier! in your opinion, how was the show? what was the response like?

OLIVIER PETITPAS: It was great! The placed filled up suddenly right at the official launch time (6pm) and didn't empty until 10:30pm. I'd say there were about 150 people who dropped by. I'm bad with numbers, but Frenchie with whom I organized the event did the estimate following the number of drinks consumed ... I haven't talked much with sober artists yet, but they all seemed very happy with the response as well.

[see if you can spot 123Klan, the NVC Crew and even yourselves in there ;p]
OP: The only regret I have is our pretty bad light set-up... It was really too bad for NVC Crew especially. But maybe it's just me and my perfectionism...

TRE: man, what i wouldn't give to see a sloshed artist do a live-custom-demo LOL (im serious - it would make for interesting results ... i'd organize a slosh-custom-show when i can one fine day LOL) ... how were the customs received? and how many customs in total were on display?

OP: There were 14 BUDs and Nades, one Munny and many of NVC Crew's georamas on show. I didn't have much time to mingle with people that were observing the works (I was minding the business end of the store...) but people seemed impressed. I was, anyway!

TRE: i can't wait to see NVC Crew's works myself LOL (Dr.Bao told me of some exciting "new surprises" ;p) - what do you think of the customs thus far?

OP: Great stuff! I expected a lot of paint jobs and maybe a few sculpted add-ons, but four people turned up with electric bits (the batteries are now slowly dying), Natalie Girard's piece is a sort of flowerpot, Vandal, Fantom and Mélanie Baillairgé's pieces can barely be recognized for the BUDs they once were... I might just buy one myself! ;)

TRE: one of my favs was Vandal's! are they for sale? and if yes how do folks go about getting them?

OP: Most of them are indeed for sale, and there will be a draw for a blank BUD amongst the buyers in two weeks. Prices are on the Flickr-page. For "prices to be discussed" items, contact me and I'll pass on your offers to the artists. Many of them wanted to keep their pieces as their "first toys" but I'm sure they could be convinced! We accept Paypal payment and will inform potential buyers of the shipping fees.

TRE: yeah, the "first" is somehow always the most "precious" (IMHO) ... looking at the online images on your flickr - tis a mixed bag of emotions (and personal reaction), and also interesting somehow when you see the difference of approach to a toy; from both a toy-specific-customizer and non-toy customizers - which makes for a wider spectrum of visual dynamics, and hence make it more visually interesting as well, IMHO :)

OP: it's so true - artists at this show came from many different backgrounds, and it shows in the results. it was a first toy customization experience for over half of the participants, and they were all impressed by what the others had done...

TRE: and i reckon tis always cool when folks are able to "share" in that experience, regardless of whatever field they "originate" from, especially in group custom-shows, IMHO - how long will the displays be up for, and what's up next for camiondepompier?

OLIVIER PETITPAS: The show is going to stay up for a month. Two events are lined up for November, but I'll keep quiet until things are confirmed. December will host a 3" Trexi custom show which will be open to all. I was contacted by people in Europe and Asia for this show, so I hope they will still be interesed in two months! More details to come...

TOYSREVIL: looking forward to them, Olivier! again congratulations on the show, and also to all customizers involved! hope to see more of everyone's work in the near future :)
