about sauerkids' lefty custom for diy calamari

TOYSREVIL: what is the name of your custom?

SAUERKIDS: His name is Hank. He is an retired clown. In his younger days he was a daredevil stilt walker and a swashbuckling sword swallower. After a stupid accident in which he lost his twin brother Buck, Hank continued his career slightly less dangerous as a clown and a balloon magician. Although he looks like an octopus (and smells like one), Hank is actually born human (at least, that's what he told us: "Ever saw an octopus with a nose like that? Ha?" ... Well, we guess he's right about that....) /// CLICK HERE FOR MORE

TOYSREVIL: daredevil-retired-clowns are the bomb! LOL - what is the toy-story behind your custom?

SAUERKIDS: One day Hank just walked in, saying he was demanding money for the Retired Clown's Pension Program. He worked a couple of years in the famous French circus "Cirque Phantastique", but now spends the aftermath of his life in loneliness as "Cirque de Fatigue" playing Hawaiian tunes on his lapsteel guitar. He's actually quite good at it, due to the fact he has got 8 paws. Next to tearing phonebooks to shreds (because of the sound). He's also a huge fan of running backwards full throttle in crowded pedestrian areas (just because, full stop). At night he contemplates the cycle of life amongst other mystical matters, until he's grown a headache vicious enough to pass out.

TOYSREVIL: would luv to hear Hank's tunnage (Hawaiian tunes chill my soul) - what was the genesis of your custom?

SAUERKIDS: As probably understood from the above, Hank is not our creation. He's a breathing, walking human ehm eh... creature. Don't ever call him squid or octopus, or he immediately starts crying (dripping ink all over the place..). Hank is a sensitive little fellow.

TOYSREVIL: cheers for your time and trouble guys! in closing, please share with us, Who Is Sauerkids? and what are you guys currently up to?

SAUERKIDS: Sauerkids is Mark Moget and Taco Sipma, living and working in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Besides our current day jobs as graphic designers, we started the label Sauerkids on the side as an outlet for our non-client based work. At the moment we're working on several projects and collaborations. To name a few: a very own line of Sauerkids laptop sleeves in collaboration with a well-known American company, working on our first real Sauerkids vinyl toy (more news about that later..), new paintings and prints, and scheduled for late 2008, our first Sauerkids record with home-made Sauertunes.

SAUERKIDS: At this very moment there's also Sauerkids stuff to be seen at Gallery 1988 in L.A. (as part of the Hi-Fructose show "Bitters & Sweets") and some work at Yves Laroche Galerie in Montreal (as part of the groupshow "Sweet Calaveras"). And... be on the look out for our new Kaniza toy, as part of Toycube's new collection of platform toys "Kaniza - Cluster 1". Will drop this December.
