About Kanizas, Kansers and Sharkys With Keith Poon

ToyQube has listed their KANIZA Cluster Series One online here, which includes profile-images of the individual figures and production-numbers [all images+info via] - which i've done-up a "handy" chart for your referencing-pleasure with the yellow-tag being Chase-figures (*note: am currently missing images for both Andrew Bell's and Steven Daily's Kanizas :p)

meanwhile i had a quick-chat with ToyQube-headhoncho Keith Poon (a while back)

TOYSREVIL: how did the Kaniza-series come about? what was it's genesis?

KEITH POON: I always wanted to create a mini version of Kanser, and I always love all the living things under the water/ocean creatures. With the love of all the feature artists and the help from Klim Kozinevich (of Bigshot Toyworks), this is how I come up with the Kaniza series.

TOYSREVIL: tell us about the Kaniza Cluster Series One. who's in it and if there's any chase figures or specific quantity limits?

KEITH POON: KANIZA Cluster 01: Andrew Bell, Bupla, Candykiller, Charuca, Dacosta Bayley, DEVIOUS, FILTH, Jesse Hernandez, Julie West, Keith Poon, Kenn Munk, Mike Burnett, Sam Fout, Sauerkids & Steven Daily!

There will be 5 chase figures by Andrew bell, Dacosta Bayley, FILTH, Julie West & Sam Fout.

TOYSREVIL: you've mentioned before you're influenced by horoscope and ocean creatures [peep here], as evident in your Kanser and Sharky creations - anything down the line that you have planned? anymore Kansers and Sharkys to look out for?

KEITH POON: As I mentioned before, to me, the inspirations from ocean creatures are endless; but I am open to try anything new. I’m working on a 20" Sharky right now, along with my new character. As for Kanser, the 2nd design for artist series will be out on 12/08/07, after that we will have a FILTH Kanser.

TOYSREVIL: what's the status of TWINSS now? and what was the genesis of that creation? seems it goes beyond your ocean+horoscope-influences.

KEITH POON: TWINSS is something new that I wanted to give it a try besides the whole ocean theme. We’ve only made 100 pcs of TWINSS as our store exclusive, the rest of the designs are coming out in late 08’.

TOYSREVIL: which came first - the desire to open a toystore? or the desire to be a creator?

KEITH POON: I think both goes the same way, if I didn’t open a toystore, I don’t think I would have a chance to know all these artists, to gain knowledge of being a creator.

TOYSREVIL: being both a creator and an owner of a toystore (ToyQube) how do you think that union has helped you in your creations? does being a toystore owner affect your creations? if yes, in what way?

KEITH POON: It helps me a lot in doing my own design being an owner of a toystore because the immediate reactions from the customers are priceless.

TOYSREVIL: if given the chance/opportunity (without the issue of cost :p) - what would you like to design? what type of toy is your dream creation?

KEITH POON: Hmm…I don’t know, maybe a six feet Sharky.

TOYSREVIL: cheers for your time and trouble, Keith - in closing, what can people look out for in 2008?

KEITH POON: Kaniza-Series and more productions from ToyQube.
