I thought the Iron Man toy was cool. Their Wolverine subcast, however, was a rip off of the Medicom/H8G toy. If Upperdeck doesn't do anything to differentiate themselves, they're just cashing in on the vinyl toy craze.

ReplyDeleteI think the designs and sculpts on the Subcast series have been very pedestrian thus far. I'd much rather see something that directly references the work of Marvel artists such as Humberto Ramos, Chris Bachalo or Joe Madureira. Each has had distinct and influential interpretations of several Marvel characters that suit the designer / vinyl toy culture very aptly.
ReplyDeleteI agree with ninja. They should be based off Madureira etc. Some of the artists defined a style that is very unique but still portrays the character in every detail. I think the subcasts are weak in design and heavly influenced by the Medicom VCD's.
