jeff smith's bone as a movie

for 2 days i've been searching for Jeff Smith's BONE: One-edition, ever since i read online that Warner Bros had picked-up the rights to (with Dan Lin producing), becoz i miss Bone and wanna re-read the entire story again ... but alas, i cannot imagine how a 1,300-pager-thick phone-book of a graphic novel could ever "disappear" (welcome to my "Grotto-of-Eternity ©") ...

BONE brings back many a happy memories, and dare i say; "enchanting" experience, for which the stories packed a whole dollop worth of charm, leveled with it's social commentary bubbling beneath it's cutesy-pie veneer, cleverly "disguised" as a fairy tale of the new millennium. and darnnit, *I <3 Bone* (that only sounds wrong if you've got a nasty imagination LOL :p) ... tis remarkable too that i received an email from an old friend (*waves to Yuina*) about the news as well, for she was one of the only small few who shared the love for Fone, Smiley, Phoney, Thorn, Gran'ma Rose, Red Dragon, and of coz, those stupid, stupid Rat Creatures (whom i suspect were the ones who'd wanted to put in a Britney-song - *shudder*)

so now the question would be: would it work purely as a fully animated CG-feature? or a human + CG-combi? = i say go for the former, with the quirkiness of Shrek and a tinge of LOTR when the Locusts come ... and leave irritating child-actors out of the picture (no, i DO NOT want to see a shrieking Dakota Fanning & a Judi Dench duking it out with the Hooded One, NO).

WHAT IS:
" The fantasy series followed three cousins from the Bone family who are small, white and bald humanlike creatures with big noses. The trio are run out of their hometown and find themselves in a mysterious valley where they are separated and hunted by other creatures. They are taken in by a girl named Thorn and her grandmother, and find out that the valley is threatened by an evil force called the Lord of the Locusts.

The series ran irregularly from 1991-2004. Scholastic has been publishing the collected stories in graphic novel format since 2005, selling more than 1 million copies so far.

A decision on what kind of format "Bone" should take -- live-action or animated or both -- will be based on filmmaker meetings.

An animated version was in development at Nickelodeon Films but fell through, partly because Smith was displeased that the studio was aiming it for kids and wanted the film to include pop songs." [via]
