so which rebellious troublemaker possesses incredible strength, super speed, can transform into 72 different animals or objects, ride the clouds, clone himself (with his hair), has knowledge of magical spells and incantations, as well as possessing a magical battle staff that could fit in an earlobe, and yet can grow as tall as the clouds in the sky?/// WHO IS IT?
"Sun Wu Kong" (å™æ‚Ÿç©º aka The Monkey King) was one of my (very) early childhood "heroes", whose tales were brought to life in Chinese animated-'Journey To The West'-cartoons (and pretty slick ones too), screened from the telly on festive Chinese holidays ...
the "worship" perhaps lasted longer than it should, when one fine adolescent-day came Stephen Chow's 'A Chinese Odyssey' and thy memories have been tainted every since ... altho make no mistake, i lurved Chow's flick, yeh? but the "Monkey King" was no longer a "cartoon fable" for me...a mixed bag of emotions when i just peeped the 'Forbidden Kingdom' movie-trailer (a modern retelling of the fable with Jet Li and Jackie Chan, but with a Hollywood-twist - more on this in another post) and when all former-remnants of childhood memories seem lost, out pops Munky King's MONKEY KING vinyl soaring thru the cyber-clouds!
designed by Nathan Jurevicius and sculpted by Dave Pressler, Monkey King was borne from an animation project with MTV Asia - seen in the background is the Monkey King EARTH Edition (limited to 600-pcs) while in the foreground stood the fiery Munky King-exclusive FIRE Edition (limited to only 150-pcs) - both Monkey Kings stand 8 inches tall on a removable cloud, his magical staff held unto by bendy arms and tail (cool) - currently no price nor drop-date has been determined ~ *stay tuned* ~
