Making Ishikawa The Roller Warrior by NVC Crew

with the New York Comic Con barely a fortnight away, Dr. Bao of NVC Crew shares with us some Work-In-Progress images of the the production of their first ever original 6-incher tall toy-creation; ISHIKAWA The Roller Warrior [last seen on this blog as a painted-proto] - CLICK THRU to see more images as Dr. Bao talks us thru their production process.

Dr. Bao and Spive presents:

[will bug you folks about the sketches on the back wall soon too]

DR.BAO: With NYCC coming very soon, you probably understand that Spive and I are working like hell to complete a few pieces ready for the show! And I thought it would be a good idea that our fans are seeing the progress of the production pieces, so you guys can appreciate the work we put into these toys ... And you must probably want to know how hard and long is the production process right? Well it's just INSANEEEEEEEELY long!!!!!!!! Hhahahahaha!!!! ... I may sound like I'm exaggerating but, hey seriously, it never thought that it can be that hard and long to make this toy into production!!!

DR.BAO: You will notice that to make this toy possible to be molded correctly, our team had to perform some plastic surgery (hahahah!!) by cutting some parts of the body and then mold them all separately ... This makes our figure much easier to paint. but man, it's just crazy how many molds we had to cast just for doing a complete figure! Well, I think just by looking at the number of molds, you can easily understand that we had a wonderful time smelling the resin compound, and the acetone used to clean up everything afters!

DR.BAO: And since we want to maintain QC, we're doing all this by ourselves! Besides the long casting time, the finishing on each of the parts was another thing that was quite time consuming, we sanded all the pieces one-by-one!

DR.BAO: Also we're very happy by the precision of our molds ... If you take a look of the pics, you can see that it gives us lots of details ... I think you can easily understand that it's because Spive and I are very passionate persons; by what we're doing and all the effort we put in to make all this possible ... And it's cool because when we're looking at the result of our efforts, well we're kind of get that sense of self satisfaction, you know what im mean? ... And because we're not making like, tons of copies of our toys like the majors do, we're all doing this by ourselves, and we're even more satisfied by the quality that we can bring into our product :)

DR.BAO: As for availability; we should be able to have a very very limited copies ready for New York Comic Con, which is like in 2 weeks! We're trying to make something special for these first copies (will let you know more on this later on!) And since we have fans over there in NYC, we thought it should be great if we can have something for the con there ... We had a great time last year meeting people that we just want to come back again this year - but with Ishikawa with us!
