toysrevil @ singapore toy & comic convention 2008: day two (june 28)

Day Two (28th June) down @ the Con practically does not exist - at least for me personally, well, except for an hour of pounding the convention aisles.

With nearly 5 hours' worth of comatose slumber, I awoke to continue data-transfer (the absolute bane of my online existence) followed by a frantic rush to blog as much of Day One (Preview Night) before I even dare attempt to begin Day Two (which meant being physically at Hall-603 = STCC2008-venue). But alas, I had over-estimated my dismal blogging-abilities yet again ... 9+ hours straight from beginning til the last Touma-post, I'd decided to stop, to venture forth to Suntec, in search of information for my readers, and to fill in the image-gaps in my coverage (and still I'd missed certain crucial pics when I got home afters to begin data-transfer! Shove a broom up me rump-hole dagnabit) CLICK THRU FOR MORE but only if you really want to :p

By the time I limped my way into the hall (I can barely walk now, my calf and thighs ache from going down on my knees too many a times the past few days - to take pictures, yo!) - it was a hour til closing time at 9pm.

By then, all the visiting Vinyl Toy artists and creators had left the building. The lights were on in the display case, but the silence of the emptiness within the booths echoed. The only thing stopping me from breaking into the cases and making a run (or "hastened-limping") with the goodies, were, of coz my innate sensibility (*cough*), and possibly becoz of the throngs of folks moving in waves? ... Will haveta figure that out one fine day ... heh.

As predicted and expected when I first considered undertaking this blog-coverage endeavor - was the picture taking during the official Open To Public Days (Day 2 & 3) would be a chore, becoz of the high number of moving traffic, some content to walk straight pass your lens-sight, while others just moved into spot and decide to have a chat with their friends, or regale their partners about the finer virtues of collecting toys (all good, all good LOL). It was mobile-phone-camera heaven.

And frankly, how pissed can I get, when I see folks cooing over the figures behind the glass-panels? They too are enjoying the products, innit? I like to see people happy with their toys :)

Anyways, word on the ground was that the Saturday morning was insanity, based on on-site "live" reporting by 9 & Natsu, and Marc, as well as from folks I'd met during my hour-tour. The afternoon was a literal Great Singapore Pop-Culture Sale. Half-day workday for some Singaporeans, hence the after lunch crowd.

By the first preview night, word would've gotten round about what specific things folks are expecting for different genres - and the hardcore collectors and hobbyists would have been on-site the very next day to grab their bounty post-haste. Singapore is not a very big country. Word travels. Both good and bad (actually the bad faster, but yeh). And once when there's a "lobang" (pronounced "lor-bung" - translated directly to "hole" in Malay, which in turn is a slang for "good deal" LOL) let loose in the cyber-winds? heh.

One of my personal hopes for this Con is that the cash registers would ring loud enough to herald an opportunity of a next Con, hopefully for next year. No one wants or needs to be doing a "loosing" business, innit? IMHO, anyways...

Most booths were pretty busy, with Blythe and BJD-dolls buzzing (v.cool that). Overheard conversations - especially from the young'uns - was to buy anything they wanted, as long as it looked cool to them. Daymn - I remembered a life like that once LOL

5-minutes to 9pm, when I stepped out of the con-doors, people were still walking in, everyone near oblivious to the public announcement over the PA of the closing of the Con - and maybe that's a good sign? (bad perhaps for the organizers of this shindig tho :p)

So what would Sunday entail? Speculations are divided between another day of madness, starting even earlier (no half-day work) and even madder than Saturday ... or it will tapper off, becoz as mentioned, the hardcore-buyers would've come and grabbed what they wanted, leaving the curious and the touristos ... altho somehow folks are "expecting" a discount session close to closing time (very Singaporean-trait) as well ... altho I'm bracing myself for the possibility of folk starting to pack and store their goods before the designated time ...

Then while enroute home, the taxi driver reminded me of the Euro 2008 soccer finals Sunday-night/Monday-morning: Spain versus Germany ... so maybe folks may be storing up their energy?

So maybe folks shopuld consider popping by the Con earlier in the day, and perhaps get a rest before the next workday starts, yeh?

My parents will be dropping by the Con on Sunday. Am still have yet decided on taking my toys out for a day photo-taking, as there is still effin-loads to be done (have yet to accept the fact that I may never be able to anyways) ... well, I'll see what/when the data-transfer takes me (hence no pics for this blog-post, as they are still being transferred! LOL)

I am bummed out today becoz:

01. I missed the STCC-Exclusive Red BE@RBRICK this morning - as I was blogging away while my posse were on site. And it's already on the bay.

Ixnay on the Passport Giveaways as well, as neither me nor my team were given our passports. Bummer.

02. Quite a few of my friends dropped by the Con, and had expected to see me. That really bummed me out actually. Every ring of the mobile phone was like the funeral-march tune. Blogging by itself is already a physically solitary existence, compared to a gathering of like-minded folks in the middle of their wonderland playground? My heart thuds heavy.
