2008-WRAP-UP WITH TRE: NOFERIN

TRE chats and catches up with NOFERIN [www/blog] aka Candy & Nicho - with a quick wrap-up before 2008 ends (and they have been pretty busy this year!). I realized I first interviewed them around the same time last year, so this is quite a nice circle to "close" ~ for 2008, that is! TOYSREVIL: How has 2008 been to Noferin? How have you guys been and what have you been up to?

NOFERIN: 2008 is nearly over? Wow, so quick! And what an incredible year it was! 2008 was the first full year of Noferin. We had our first international solo show at Copro Nason Gallery in L.A., giving us an excuse to finally go to Disneyland together. We got married in June, had a baby girl in October and to top it all off, we finally released our wooden Pecanpals. Overall, 2008 has been fantastic!

TOYSREVIL: What was the Best toy you bought in 2008? And which one was it you wished you hadn't bought? And why?

NOFERIN: The best toy that we bought this year would be Classic Pooh. Not the horrible Disney versions. We mean the real Pooh. We are big A.A.Milne and E.H.Shepard fans and are trying to amount a nice collection of early edition books. Recently there was a large body of original E.H.Shepard sketches put up for auction. How we wish we had a spare million dollars lying around. Ho hum.

We wish we hadn’t bought our Indiana Jones LEGO set. Actually, let me rephrase that… I wish we didn’t open the box and build it, because like most LEGO sets, once we built it, it wasn’t nearly as fun as we thought it would be after lusting over it from the picture on the box.

TOYSREVIL: Cool-Pooh, and Ouchie-for-Indy ... Recession? What recession? Is it affecting you folks in any way, or going to, in 2009?

NOFERIN: If the media stopped painting stories of gloom and doom then people could stop and sniff the roses again.

TOYSREVIL: What would you consider to be a milestone you've achieved in 2008 thus far?

NOFERIN: If we have to name just one, without a shadow of doubt, this would have to be the 17th of October, 2008. We always wanted someone to make us Happy Mother’s / Father’s Day cards and from this day onward we will.

However, this site is not called “Babiesrevil” so we will name one more milestone, which is something we have been working on longer than even baby making. After numerous delays, we finally released our wooden Pecanpals in December. We were gob-smacked as we witnessed the orders come rushing in, and in less than 24 hours, we sold out. It is such an incredible feeling to see something that we have invested so much into being appreciated by people from all over the world. We are deeply grateful for the insurmountable support we have received. To create something that people can associate with is a truly special position to be in. Thank you!

TOYSREVIL: Hey TRE is anything I want it to be, so Babiesrevil it can be! LOL - congrats again on being proud parents, Nicho and Candy! If you were given a choice to remember just one single memory for 2008 (with everything else wiped clean and forgotten thereafters) - What would that memory be? ... And what would you rather forget?

NOFERIN: Sorry readers, our’s is all mushy… This would be the birth of our daughter for both parts of the question.

TOYSREVIL: What are you looking forward to in 2009?

NOFERIN: We are looking forward to watching our daughter grow, watching Noferin grow, and watching the smiling faces at our big solo show planned for October. We have quite a few exciting projects we are working on and many of these will involve the year 2009.

NOFERIN: Actually, the most exciting thing we are looking forward to is seeing other people taking photos of their Pecanpals sitting amongst their own collection, or by their children’s bed, or on the beach, or in the car, or sitting next to them on the train, or at their favourite café, or wherever they are lucky enough to be taken. That will be a special moment. We are thinking of having a special section on our website where we will post all the photos that people send in to us of what their Pecanpals are getting up to. So get snapping!

TOYSREVIL: What are you folks gonna be doing this Christmas, and where are you going to be at the stroke of midnight, 2009?

NOFERIN: Depending on the weather, we are planning on having a big seafood lunch outside in the sun. That is usually how we spend our special summer’s day. Our New Year’s Eve will probably be spent trying to soothe our baby to sleep. Sleep becomes a very valuable commodity once you are a parent! After that we need to send all our Pecanpals away to their new homes and then we need to pack up ourselves as we move to Sydney. Busy start to the year!

TOYSREVIL: May your days be filled with blissful sleep and happiness in the new year, Nicho & Candy & Poppy!
