The Bestest Toys Of 2008

Seriously tho, in a blink of an eyelid, 2008 is gonna go poof in less than a month's time (where's all the time gone to dammit?) .... And unlike my failed solo attempt at compiling a Best-Of-List for 2007 (been bugged about it for an entire year dammit) - maybe this year, I'd try asking YOU folks to "help" instead! (Share the joy and effort, I say!) - Because, what's a year-end without looking back at what had gone on before, innit? So the question is/are: Who do YOU think is/are the BESTEST TOYS of 2008?

(1) BESTEST (Single) TOY Of 2008
(could be designer vinyl, plush, mass market toy etc)
(2) BESTEST TOY SERIES Of 2008
(3) BESTST TOY PRODUCERS / MAKERS Of 2008
(From a toy company that has made more than a single toy for 2008 - boutique or mass producers)
(4) BESTEST TOY DESIGNER / CREATOR For Production Toys Released in 2008
(From a toy that has been produced and made available in year ending 2008)
(5) BESTEST TOY CUSTOMIZER For 2008
(From designer vinyl, to plush - as long as it be "Toys"!)

- List all - or how many ever you like - in the comments section of THIS post :)
- Do feel free to share with everyone WHY they are listed, and also don't feel shy to share your own goodies (sounds wrong only if you're stinky-minded :p).
- If you're in the mood to rant? GO HERE for the Worstest Toy of 2008 instead. This isn't the post to do it in, thanks :)

AND, if you're interested in a little "incentive", feel free to email me directly (along with your mailing details and FULL LIST of your choices for 2008) for a chance to be a single lucky winner (via "lucky draw") of:
(1) An AFA'08-edition Capsule Sonny Angel from Anime Festival Asia 2008 [blogged]
(2) A Blank White DIY Mini Tofu from Singapore Toy & Comic Con 2008.

From two of the more eventful happenings in this little island country I live and breathe in. (Anyone else wants to sweeten the lucky-draw pot, do feel free to PM me - no worries if not). Dateline for lucky draw submission is before the stroke of midnight of 2009 (11:59PM / 31st December 2008 / +8hrs GMT). There is no "right or wrong answers", just the spirit of participation, and a little "thank-you" from me, for the effort :)

FYI: Comments for this blog-post is open indefinitely-ish - but will not be eligible for lucky draw. You're welcomed to both comment here and email me tho :)

the Bertie the Pipebombs are a very close second and than a long, long time of nothingness...
    (imvho)
    (2) BESTEST TOY SERIES Of 2008:
Ashley Woods World War Robot (WWR)
    (3) BESTEST TOY PRODUCERS / MAKERS Of 2008:
    tough one:
    ThreeA
Which wouldn't be much if ThreeZero/7471/Bigshot Toyworks didn't create the first Bertie together.
    (4) BESTEST TOY DESIGNER / CREATOR For Production Toys Released in 2008
    Hands down: Ashley Wood.
    (5) BESTEST TOY CUSTOMIZER For 2008

    (2) BESTEST TOY SERIES Of 2008
    Kathie Olivas Scavengers
    (3) BESTST TOY PRODUCERS / MAKERS Of 2008

  4. (1) BESTEST (Single) TOY Of 2008:
The Bramble with its 4 million points of articulation and its 4 million dollar price tag. ;)

    (2) BESTEST TOY SERIES Of 2008:
All of them. But I personally liked Ninjatown for the cute factor.

    (3) BESTEST TOY PRODUCERS / MAKERS Of 2008: ESC+Touma= Amazing pieces.

    (4) BESTEST TOY DESIGNER / CREATOR
J-R00 from Dynomight NYC (You can't stop the Bumrush!) Seriously though, I love me some Joe Ledbetter and Andrew Bell.

    (5) BESTEST TOY CUSTOMIZER For 2008
The Sucklord. (And maybe that Andy guy?)

    (6) Super Rad Honorable Mention: Dynomight NYC for being AWESOME!!! Cuz the 250 dollar bribe I am wiring you says we are. ;)

  5. (1) BESTEST (Single) TOY of 2008
    Yamanaya's YAMATON kaiju toy
    http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r200/pixel-panther/Yamaton-4-smaller.jpg

    (2) BESTEST TOY SERIES of 2008 :
I don't follow series. I just buy single toys
that I like so I can't think of a toy series
that knocked my socks off. Percentage-wise
I like 3 (white, grey, blue) of the mini King Ken
figures from the 7 made (ROCK-ON version,
white, grey, blue, green, orange, purple) so
it probably has the highest percentage of
    figures that I want (42%).

    (3) BESTEST TOY PRODUCERS / MAKERS of 2008 :
I don't follow any Toy producers / makers. If they make
    a toy I like, then I buy it. There's no "loyalty"/"groupie"
purchases from me. If someone held a gun up to my
head and said, "You have to choose one," then I would
choose Yamanaya for making the YAMATON.

    (4) BESTEST TOY DESIGNER / CREATOR
Whoever sculpted the YAMATON kaiju toy and I
would include the artist who drew the YAMATON
in the Ultraman comic book which is the source
    material for the sculpt.

    (5) BESTEST TOY CUSTOMIZER for 2008
Paulkaiju did some stuff that impressed me, but it's
too hard to remember all the kick butt customs out
there in order to do a thorough evaluation. So I leave
    this one blank.

  6. 1) Dirty Deeds Bertie, for being unique in the 1/6 field.
    2) World War Robot.
    3) ThreeA, for continual creativity in the 1/6 market.
    4) Kouma - I just love his spiky stuff :)
    5) Dr. A.

  7. I have been reading this list since the day it was posted.. and can't believe no one has mentioned CoarseToys at all. The Pain and Chopper toys are out of this world. Sure a bit on the pricy side. But well worth it. Not to mention the stuff that was shown at Rotofugi and now in Berlin.
Hands down.. toy/designer of the year.
