"Project After Dark" Pascagoula Alien by Michael Lau x Prodip

"On the night of October 10, 1973, there was a UFO sighting by fifteen different witnesses who saw a strange, unknown object fly over a housing project in St. Tammany Parish, New Orleans, Louisiana. Two of the witnesses were policeman. This sighting would only be the beginning of what was to occur the next night on the nearby Pascagoula River..." Based on the infamous Pascagoula alien, Michael Lau created one of his most unique figures. Co-produced by Prodip, each 9 inch tall vinyl figure features a re-moveable head which reveals an alien head. DKE Toys is distributing (so do check for availability with your fav retailers) with each of the Black, Yellow and White colorways having a SRP of US$100-per. Quite remarkable as I remember this item's release back in 2006. To have it now, would be quite cool, I reckon :)

STORY-CONTINUED: While they sat stunned, looking at the weird flying machine, a door opened in the UFO, and to their utter amazement, three beings of unknown origin began to float toward the two. The beings did have legs, but did not use them-they literally floated across the water toward Hickson and Parker. The two fishermen would later attempt to describe what the beings looked like "... about five feet tall, had bullet-shaped heads without necks, slits for mouths, and where their noses or ears would be, they had thin, conical objects sticking out, like carrots from a snowman's head."

TRE-IMPRESSIONS: I will always remember the excitement and anticipation of the figure/s when the news of it broke in 2006 - back then as part of Michael's CSBOOTH 13 / Off World Creatures-era - as one of the more interesting characters from ML (ever since I was disillusioned with the man since the ridiculous ABC-Children era). I remember thinking that the non-humanoid vibe of the aliens were a refreshing change from his regular urban-styled characters synonymous with Lthe ML-"brand".

And I also distinctly remembering the general "unfriendliness" of specific netizens during that time - who had lorded over images and info of said figures. (Details of which will needn't be repeated in detail). But needless to say, any excitement was tainted. Wish I had nicer memories to share tho, but that's just the way it is, when people's ego and pride takes over a shared passion for some one else's creations, innit?

The subsequent / eventual release of the "baby" version of the Pascagoula Alien via the Project After Dark Off World Creature Boxset (with DVD) was more pleasant, at the very least with new found source of information. This remains one of the more desired items on my personal wish-list tho :)
