Event Images of G40 @ The Art Summit with Event Write-up by Zefr

Do allow me to introduce zefr aka Monica with her in-depth write-up of the ART WHINO event currently on in DC, U.S.A. She has uber-cool images viewable on Flickr (Click here to view in full-screen slideshow) of the event, of which I have selected a few to show here. Encompassing multiple genres in a variety of themes - the event runs thru June 17th, so do pop by if you happen to be in the region - 4 x floors of art is no joke and needs to be visited!

G40 Art Whino

The massive G40 Art Show returns to Washington DC for its second year, taking over 4 floors of a deserted office building on 14th and W with a mind-blowing collection of art, graf, vinyl, sneakers, skateboards, installations, and entertainment. The art is organized by Shane Pomajambo and Art Whino, and the entertainment this year is hosted by DC's Bright Young Things with live music, dj’s and events going on Tuesday-Sunday all month long. It's a total art environment, with every wall and surface and stairway, and even the floors covered in graffiti, stencils, paste-ups, and surprises.

This year's G40 features an awesome custom vinyl show, curated by SketOne, holding down the main room when you enter the art exhibit space on the second floor. The customs are a great assortment of anything goes, without a common sculpt or theme to limit them. Participating artists include 64 Colors, Angry Woebots, BabyVtec, Brent Nolasco, Chauskoskis, czr prz, Dust, Huck Gee, Itch 1, J*RYU, Jason Jacenko, Jesse Smith, Julie West, Kelly Vivanco, Kevin Gosselin, Lara Slater, Lou Pimentel, MAD, Pocket Wookie, PON, Project Detonate, Rhoby, Ritzy Periwinkle, SketOne, Southerndrawl, TaskOne, Tracey Tubera, and The Beast Brothers.

Lots of creative sculpting in this show! SketOne's iconic ketchup dunny greets you as you walk in. Kevin Gosselin's piece features a genius transformation of a dunny into a desert rock formation with Beaky Buzzard and Bugs Bunny titled "Bring Home a Baby Bumblebee." J*RYU's piece, Mattia, is exquisite, featuring Ghost Girl totally transformed into a gnarled tree/pirate ship, with a tiny, delicate ghostly figure of a girl peering out from the lookout. The work on this one is really incredible, and it had people transfixed, cameras out at all times.

Chauskoskis's two customs are also brilliant. "Mud," a good-natured reference to the Pawnny sculpt, is like a fat swamp creature balanced impossibly on one scrawny arm, reaching off the corner of the display toward the bar serving drinks a few feet away (or its unsuspecting customers). His big Teddy Troops custom Voodoo Bear is totally awesome as well –you’ll have to check Chauskoskis’ website for pictures of Voodoo’s face, hidden under the helmet – so great!

Spankystokes Skull Mexico guys in different color variants – more amazing sculpting - are on the opposite corner. BabyVtec’s adorable NomNom figure looking in the mirror and dispensing candy is also an eye-catcher. Is the candy for the taking? I hope so! ;)  Huck Gee's twin ninja dunnies - "Autumn Wind" - feature crazy, elegant detailing in the clothes and wings... figures from Huck's beautiful ninja dunny prints come to life.  I  also loved Lou Pimentel's qee, Angst Woes' dunny, RitzyP's rhino, and the mega munny monkey (but don't know who the artist is) - insane painting skills. There were so many fantastic customs, I wish I could mention about them all!

When your eyes start to spin form the three floors of non-stop art, you can relax in the ball pit or the sofa lounge, play ping-pong or get DANCING – 3 huge dance spaces, different kinds of music, to choose from at any given time. If you haven’t been to DC in a while (or ever), now’s the time!
