Originally seen at Toy Art Gallery's "Resin Show" Chochinobake is the second character in Mikie's ongoing "Yokaiju" line of hand made resin figures. Based on traditional Japanese folklore, Chochinobake or the "haunted paper lantern" features 2 articulated arms and a clear hair/fire piece that sits on top of the figure. As an added bonus each Chichinobake figure comes with a battery powered tea candle that sits inside the figure lighting the hair piece up from underneath!

  1. Hello there. Wonderful write up on Chochinobake! I was the lucky bloke who purchased Graham's Chochinobake from the recent Resin Toy Exhibit @ TAG, & I feel it my duty as an original owner to chime in here aaand this is why - When I 1st laid eyes on this resin paper lantern monster, I was immediately attracted to it, but probably more-so intrigued. Perhaps it's my being an American, but I had not seen anything like this before, well, except for actual lanterns & similar artifacts. Still, it was a mature idea, quite unique, & super fun to look at. Mine came with 2 different flame versions of lcd teacup candles, & get this - they FLICKER! A faux flame? Maybe, BUT the result is the result and it works! Anyone who knows the intimacy of losing yourself while sitting & staring at the flames & cinders of a bonfire, fireplace, can't forget lantern, will know exactly the conjured feelings I'm talking about here. And the blackened interior & detailed smoke stains around Chochinobake's mouth reinforce this effect. Since having him, I've grown to adore Chochinobake all the time, catching myself just staring at him with an idiot's smile. A toy/art piece I brought home because it was really neat has now gone to favorite status, leaving previous record holders in the dust ;) Everyone needs a haunted paper lantern & it's sure to stand out in almost any collection. Yeah, mine's not going anywhere... Hmm, I wonder how long before the flame runs out.
