Custom-Feature: Quartermaine - 18 inch Mega Munny by Kalin Thompson

QUARTERMAINE-MUNNY

Kalin Thompson is an American artist living in Brisbane Australia, and shares with us images of his submission for a custom Munny show in Brisbane called "Mo' Munny Mo' Problems" (as hosted By Red Bull and a local street gear shop called "Laced"). Named QUATERMAINE - this work is the epitome of the term "painted custom" - with more views to be seen via my Facebook-album, and the figure currently up for auction on Ebay with a reserve of 1000AUD.

"When preparing for the show I wanted to tackle it from a different angle that people usually do for these dolls. I decided to approach it with a more "classical" manner and subject matter. At the same time I made an effort to stay true to the essence of the dolls themselves and the culture surrounding them. I used the animals to personify it as a character. The rams horns make the eyes, the crow for the mouth, feathers for the eyebrows and so on. "Quartermaine" is painted entirely with acrylic paints but with many of the techniques of classical oil painting; using under painting, blending and glazing with the help of several different mediums to get the desired look. The doll took around 250 hours to complete and was finished with layers of a crystal varnish to achieve the shine." ~shares Kalin.
