Toy-Reviews: Crazy88 Monkey Assassins & Cult Leaders by Wunderland War
From Wunderland War comes the "Crazy88" figurines featuring their 'Monkey Assassin' simian-character clad in suits and totting a katana! No doubt inspired by the nameless gangster-killers of Quentin Tarantino's KILLBILL seen in Vol.1 - these 7-inch tall soft vinyl figures were/are available in a myriad of colorways - with 4 in total (the fourth un-shown figure is yellow in color), and can still be purchased now HERE for US$12 per. Check out more images HERE on my FB-album!
Made by Funko, there is a layer of "sweat" on this figures when I opened them for the review - since they were received in 2007 from Vinnie Fiorello (my bad ;p). Possessing zero articulation, I reckon they would look pretty formidable as a group, rather than just a single one on the shelf, IMHO. Although the Cult Leader could stand alone as the "ring leader" of the group?
The Cult Leader design itself is slightly more interesting than the Monkey Assassin, at least in the sculpt. The alms-collection cup in front juxtaposed between the stack of cash behind the figure, is pretty funny, methinks. Also standing 7-inches tall, these vinyl-false prophets are also priced at US$12 each (although not all are currently available for sale at the online store). Also check out THIS FB-album for more images of the Cult Leader!
As a toy figurine, the paint-apps are exceedingly far from perfect and the sculpted details are wanting, and the vinyl-sweat is quite a concern - if you intend to display them for a longer duration of time. But all-in-all, this is a slice of old-skool vinyl - which no doubt pales in comparison to the current crop of offerings in this day and age, but back in the day, was one of a very few brands who offered multiple colorways of toys.
Wunderland War operations have now changed to "Paper and Plastick", and we await their character-logo to be made into resin toys from Pretty in Plastic!
