Top Five Toys from Tara McPherson You Could Get Her To Autograph For When She Is In Town
With the excitement of Tara McPherson visiting Asia (Feb 8-9th at Vinyl On Vinyl in Manila, and Feb 18-19 at PEEK! in Singapore), here are my Top 5 Picks for (Production) Vinyl TOYS you could bring along, to have Tara sign on!
Do note that I am basing my picks on the products being able to be signed on the figure's surface - so flocked figures like 2007's "Adventures of Ace and Ion" are out (as far as I'm concerned ;p) - but hey, if you folks want her to sign on the display box(es), that's your prerogative, no worries!
Whether you already own them, or need to track them down, Good Luck either way! Onwards!
Tara McPherson has a number of Dunny designs in various series since 2005 - and anyone would be swell to be signed (as they are big enough, compared the mini figurine series Gamma Mutant Space Friends, who are not on this list ;p) from the above Pink Ninja Dunny (from the Femme Fatale Dunny Series 2010), Alien Ion (from 2007's Dunny Series 4), to the Lonely Heart Ion Dunny (from 2005's LA Artist Series Dunny). What? "Too Small" for you? How about the 8" Dunns from 2007: Bubble Yucky Dunny Blue and Bubble Yucky Dunny Pink? Find them first, than say, okay? LOL
"The Eyes are Watching Dunny" came along with a SWATCH watch, which saw a release in 2011. Heck, if you do not intend to wear the watch, have her sign it too! (Or at the very least the SWATCH box or sketch in the insert paper/guarantee-slip?
2010 saw Hello Kitty collaborate with Kidrobot to release a series of vinyl toys, and this "Magic Love Hello Kitty" 6-inch tall vinyl figurine looks to be both a perfect item to be signed, as well used as a Valentine's Day gift -for that special someone who collects art toys (regardless of genders, mind you). I'll have mine signed cheekily at the figure's bum, please, thanks! XOXOXO
This has to be one of my fav designed toys from Tara (which I never did see in person at all): The Hellboy Variant from a 8" vinyl toy by Dark Horse x Toy2R! Made in an edition of 450pcs, they were released in 2007.
The 8" tall Lilitu from the Kidrobot Black series (released in 2011). In an edition 0f 200, this is perhaps the most evocative of Tara's works, compared to the rest of her more "genteel" releases. I wish I had one and would def have Tara sign it! But remember folks, if you do bring this along, try and get a silver paint marker, or white or red, and not bring along a black marker? Heh.
