Trailer for Gangster Squad & A Re-look at Twilight Magic Works Mobsters in 1/6
Just saw the above trailer for GANGSTER SQUAD on cable tv, and two things popped into mind: (1) Prior movies like 'Godfather', 'Public Enemies' and 'The Untouchables' (I so heart mobster-movies although it was from a past that I've only experienced on the big-screen).. and (2) Toys in 1/6th-scale which I used to collect!
A bit on the Gangster Squad first: The film stars Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, and is directed by Ruben Fleischer (who also directed Zombieland and also starred Emma Stone) with the trailer cut to rap-tunes for somehow some modern-day street-cred (?). The movie's tagline being: "A chronicle of the LAPD's fight to keep East Coast Mafia types out of Los Angeles in the 1940s and 50s." (IMDb / Above image via 7films). Now that that's done with, it's time for the "toys" from before!
Twilight Magic Works, Yamato Co. released two 1/6th-scale articulated figurines dressed in fabric clothes in the form of "St. Valentines' Day Massacre" in their "Rolling 20s" series back in 2000. I remember spotting the pair at a local toyshop, with my attention focused primarily for their pin-striped suits and awesome shoes!
The headsculpts were secondary to my aim tho (altho Louis looked a bit like Robert DeNiro - which folks gleefully kitbashed into his character from Michaal Mann's HEAT lol), and I remembered at some point they were being unloaded pretty decently affordable too! If I remember correctly, I scored them for about SGD$120 for the pair back when. Ironically, "affordable" in today's case, but absolutely "expensive" over a decade ago, when 1/6 was still purchasable in the two-digit price-point.
