Toy-Review: Lemi The Space Wanderer (from DesignMall Series)
WHAT-IS: Released at Taipei Toy Festival 2012 alongside other design characters from Patricio Oliver / Tenebrae, Happy Playground, Free Echo, and Cubbish - Lemi was a part of 9 x Basic figures in a blind-boxed set, priced at NT$300 per.
WHO-IS: LEMI The Space Wanderer started it's 3-D life as a paper-craft, and was nearly made into a resin figurine, and even mini, regular and supersized plush! Now LEMI is part of a series of mini vinyls released by Hong Kong-based DesignMall, and has traveled in Taiwan, and now thanks to it's creator Eric Wirjanata aka Thunderpanda from Jakarta, has now landed in my humble hands in Singapore!
THIS FIGURES: Firstly, let's take a closer look at the figure itself! Standing slightly taller than 3-inches tall (size comparison next to a Dunny at bottom of post), the piece possess two points of articulation - in it's swivel "arms" (which is actually quite cute) and stands decent, tho not necessarily steady amidst a table-shake … but stands it does :)
Paint apps are utilitarian, and not as crops as I imagined it to be, but for Lemi and his "toy contours", finishing works fine here.
PACKAGING: Apologies for the lack of snaps for the packaging, as I had received this item without it's box, which perhaps would have possibly shone more light on the product availability details…
WHERE-TO-GET: The thing about this series, and even this figure, is the availability of it - seemingly not as readily rampant (as Eric grudgingly admits) and seems the only way thus far is to contact the folks at DesignMall (who themselves seem not to do "direct retail" actually). Quite a pity this, as I really hope Lemi could travel further beyond these shores. It's always inherently "sad" that toys produced and made cannot be enjoyed be people around the world, IMHO. Nevertheless, thanks for the Lemi (and autograph), Eric!
