Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #TMNT by Kidrobot @ New York Toy Fair 2014 #nytf #nytf2014 #ToyFair2014

Seen at Kidrobot's booth @ New York Toy Fair (Feb 16-19.2014) are heroes-in-a-half-shell and villains galore in their "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" line - from Mini Figures to adorable keychains, and even large scaled figures of BEBOP and ROCKSTEADY. The blister-cards shown are also a swell and smart nod to the classic versions, as well folks of newer generations would recognize. *NICE*

Kidrobot's focus on select mass media properties (such as MARVEL, DC Comics, MegaMan, Street Fighter, The Simpsons, Futura etc) representing comicbooks, video games and television animation/cartoons, in recent years has by far eclipsed their "art toy" offerings, thus far confined to Dunny and Munnys, not forgetting their Kidrobot Black range. And with properties like "TMNT", KR continues to mine the nostalgia in kidults like myself, and you know what? I Am All For It! LOL

I am not going to stand beside the fence and hurl stones or point fingers, because in essence, "licensed media properties" is one of the ways to survive in this day and age of saturation, IMHO. "How" you do/depict/produce them, is a whole other conversation.

We've seen folks like Toy2R go this route in the past, via corporate gigs. Medicom Toy has been doing extremely well with these (altho their status as "art toy brand" might be in question ;p). Currently The Loyal Subjects is doing good work with their Transformers, G.I.Joe, etc … while Play Imaginative has now steered directly into the breach, it seems.

Interesting days, indeed.
