In celebration of this phenomenal decade of MADL, we take a step back to when it all began, and what led to the current design of this edition, in this micro Q&A with Jeremy Madl!

TOYSREVIL: How did the design of MADLs came about?
JEREMY MADL: The design of the figure was originally done in 2002, and was inspired by the birth of my first son. I developed the shape/ designs for a few months. At the time I had been collecting strange obscure toys from HK.(Lau, Eric So, etc.) I had also been collecting rubric's for a while, and the idea of mixing a platform figure with roto-casted vinyl seemed like something that (at that point) hadn't been done in the US. After a few more months of development, production/ manufacturing started.
In 2004 at SDCC the first "production" MAD*L's were released ... They were clear vinyl, and we only sold a handful of them. The rest of them I customized and sold to a few "new" retailers in the U.S. (MPH) and in Europe. Soon after SDCC 2004 Phase:1 dropped and the rest is history.

TOYSREVIL: 10 years! Congratulations and "Happy Birthday", MADLs! How did you arrive at this final design to represent a decades' worth of MADLs?
JEREMY MADL: It's been a quick 10 years for me. For this design/set concept I wanted something that was more than just a character. The MAD*L platform is great for that, but I also love the look of more graphic designs on the figure.
I had done a black/white design for the Artist series in 2005 and it's always stood out as one of my favorites. So for the 10YR Edition, I decided to keep it simple and create something with a more "classic" feel. When packaged in the custom bags, the finished product stands out from all the previous MAD*L's I've done.
