Seen@STGCC2018: Mr. Kiasu Blind Box
Launched at Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Con (8-9 Sept 2018) over the recent weekend, was Johnny Lau's "Mr. Kiasu Vol. 10" and "SuperRich" publications, with autograph sessions are the Action City booth (Above pic via actioncity.com.sg) ... which also had a showcase display at the side, which featured BLIND BOXED Mr Kiasu "Vinyl Art figures"?
Here are some snaps to share, of the 4 out of 12 designs (including one unrevealed "chase") of the series, of the Mr Kiasu character created by Johnny Lau, with figures manufactured and distributed under license by Big Box International.
channelnewsasia.com reported that the figure comes along with a "Mr. Kiasu Collection" (a box-set which comprises 8 x volumes of re-released Mr. Kiasu past books packaged in a serialized box designed by Lau), retailing for SG$88, with pre-orders available at Kinokuniya, Popular, MPH, ActionCity and "Toy or Game" stores launched Jun 22nd earlier this year. Only 500 sets will be released.
Will we get to see these 3-inch tall figures unleashed individually, separate from the box-set? Is there a market for it? Although it would've been interesting to see other characters from the comic to have appeared, for variety sakes, instead of a ALL-"Mr. Kiasu" line-up, IMHO. Maybe if ever there was a "Series 2"? :)
WHO-IS "MR KIASU"?: "Mr Kiasu (is a) character originated in the eponymous Singaporean concept of kiasu. Although Mr Kiasu personified Singaporeans during the 1990s, Lau sees Kiasuism as "a cross-section of certain demographics" rather than a concept "deeply rooted in Chinese culture such as Old Master Q"..."
