Introducing DC Collectibles' LUCHA EXPLOSIVA
Released by DC Collectibles and on show at the recent 2019 New York Toy Fair, is a "Lucha Libre"-themed interpretation of DC comic characters in "DC ¡LUCHA EXPLOSIVA"!
Featured here are official release studio images (in IG-slideshow below), snaps from NYTF2019, and official press release. The indie-cmicbook-styled anatomy seen here is awesome and refreshing to me, and the finishing looks amazing in these showroom images (no doubt prototypes), and I certainly hope the finished production pieces can match the details seen here!
I am somewhat enjoying DC embracing the alternative versions of their characters, expanding beyond the spirit of their "Elseworlds" comic books and investing into making collectible products of concepts that go far beyond traditional understanding and recognition of said source characters, IMHO.
Veering far into diversity in visual aesthetics (compared to thecliched obvious "DC Primal Age" from Funko - which works for what it is, but....), and melting into a pot of WTFAWESOME, sometimes so unrecognizable but for the fans, methinks, and THAT to me, is GOLD, as far as I am concerned.
I have yet to feature James Groman's version/interpretations (from 2018), but I am personally very impressed indeed with, and appreciate that DC Comics has to offer by way of these extreme design concepts! And Yes, do feel free to colour me "toy-greedy" LOL
