SWAMP THING Debuts May 31st on DC Universe
DC Universe will be introducing "SWAMP THING" to folks and fans, premiering May 31st on their exclusive pay-to-watch digital streaming service yourdcu.com. Based on the DC characters originally written and drawn by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, I personally am more familiar with the run from Alan Moore, which more likely flew over my head, but collected because folks raved about it LOL
This live-action series will be a weekly watch, with 13 episodes in the first season. Featured here are a trio of short promos released recently. Len Wiseman will direct the 1st episode, and is as well credited as "Executive Producer", as is James Wan.
Andy Bean is "Alec Holland", while Derek Mears will be "Swamp Thing" (in a "physical costume" rather than CGI). Alec's love interest "Abby Arcane" is played by Crystal Reed. Additional names include "Jason Woodrue" (AKA "The Floronic Man") played by Kevin Durand, and Jeryl Prescott is "Madame Xanadu" - just a couple of comic book fictional character name-drops :)
DC UNIVERSE SYNOPSIS: "SWAMP THING follows Abby Arcane as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe." (Find out more here)
I would've bulked at the name "Swamp Thing", but for my enjoyable viewing pleasures of TITANS and DOOM PATROL, and I am liking this approach to DC Comics characters, as opposed to their big screen counterparts on the DCEU, and as well the more established characters in The CW (including "Arrow", "The Flash", "Supergirl", Black Lightning" et al), with a decidedly different tone, a parallel somewhat to (the recently cancelled) Netflix x Marvel characters' situations, but is much more connected - even of verbally - with the DC Universe in general, IMHO.
The "horror"-slant is very intriguing, and I will be looking forward to this!
