Tara McPherson for Singapore Comic Con 2019 (#SGCC2019)

Tara McPherson is an independent artist based out of New York. Known primarily for her illustration work, she has as well released a number of collectibles, exceedingly familiar with and featured on TOYSREVIL - including Wonder Woman with Kidrobot (WINNER of Best Licensed Figure at the 2018 Designer Toy Awards), STELLAR DREAM SCOUTS with Kidrobot (Awarded "Best Mini Series" at the 2018 DTA), ASTRA & ORBIT, SKULL FLOWER with ToyQube, and her latest release; STELLA AND FLUX!

"(How) amazing her work was, surreal, dark and cute all at the same time with such a distinctive artist voice. Basically my art goals! Not gonna lie, I was pretty darned excited to hear she was announced, I genuinely can’t wait to see her work in person. This is what I love about design toys though, you can just stubble across other artists work and it doesn’t matter if they are well known or not, you like what you like." ~ Jessica Emmett (of Jessica Emmett Studios)

ARTIST BIO: "Creating art about people and their odd ways, her characters seem to exude an idealized innocence with a glimpse of hard earned wisdom in their eyes. Her portraits explore the realms of our psychological states via myths, legends, astronomy, physics, nature, love, loss, childhood and good old life experience. Giving us a peek into the complexities of the human psyche through her otherwordly characters." (singaporecomiccon.com)

Tara also runs "The Cotton Candy Machine" with her partner Sean Leonard, and currently has an online presence, making available her art and publications. Describing herself as a "Painter, rock poster artist, toy maker, bass player, fun haver." on social media, Tara is exceedingly well known and respected - and quite literally a "rock star"! - in the realm of the art toy culture, and we have an opportunity to meet her personally as she has been invited to this year's Singapore Comic Con! (Continued features on TOYSREVIL).

"Tara McPherson’s the one to look out for this SGCC. Her modern contemporary art constantly challenges us to contemplate and challenge our state of psychology and life experiences. Her artworks are surreal and whimsical, working primarily in the spectrum of her signature pink and blue shades. With her many years of amazing work in the art industry, she has truly inspired us to persevere and stay focused!" - Ben Teo for @nebbyart.

This is Tara's second time in Singapore (She was here briefly in 2012), and it would be very interesting to find out her impressions of our country island, and how it has changed since, IMHO.

Do check out the exclusive Q&A video below from SGCC, where Tara shares with us her inspiration and drive, the genesis and evolution of The Cotton Candy Machine and some words of wisdom for aspiring creators.

"Being a toy collector for just few years, get to know about Tara’s work when Kidrobot releases the Stella Dream Scout mini series. Love the dreamy weird looking design on each character. Her frequent use of turquoise color on her artworks is very soothing when looking at them eventhough some are weird, but in a good way of weird. Glad that she will be in SGCC this year as it will be a great opportunity for new collector like me to get to know her more up close!" - Edward Low of MY Toy Hoard.

And stay connected to SGCC for her signing schedules for the Singapore Comic Con 2019, happening on 7-8 December at Marina Bay Sands (Tickets now available here).
