Introducing KING SAMEGO by Nebby Art (Seen @ BigBigCon 2019)
SAMEGO swam thru the ocean and crawled up unto the Earth, and became the adorable sofubi figure introduced to the toy-world, thanks to Ben Teo at Nebby Arts! The self-produced SAMEGO has since gone thru a few incarnations recently, as Micro Samegos, and most recently evolved into Shark Boy and Shark Girl! And there is a yet a next stage of evolution to come....
One day the SAMEGOS decided to go back to their origin nest, but instead went further into the depths, and were greeted by their ancestral creatures: KING SAMEGO!
A prototype first debuted at Beijing Toy Show, and most recently on show at the Nebby Toys booth at Singapore Comic Con ... but THESE images, are from BigBigCon 2019 (Nov 2-3), taken before SGCC...
"King Samego" is this menacing brute's name, to be released under Whalerabbits' new "BUNKER" line of (Artist collaborative) collectibles.
I had used a Micro Same to take snaps with the King, as I'd imagine this would be the scale in their "real" toy-life counterpart lol
The cracking and "textured" sculpts are intense, and there is even a "scar" detail too. Intense "prehistoric" vibe, which ties in with the character's story/origins. On first look I'd thought there were "wings" by the figure's sides, but was told they were "fins".
Both Green and Orange (sprays around the eyes) colorways are trying out color options, with the more complete lime "Green" eyes being the final version (If memory serves?).
As much as I was intrigued at the wholly different aesthetic direction (from "aaawww" to "GGRRRR"), I too marvelled at the evolution of the concept, while retaining the base of the storyline. I am next looking forward to when Ben illustrates his header-card (*nudge-nudge*).
