New York Comic Con 2020 To Be A Online Event (Oct 8-11)

And while this year's New York Comic Con is not "cancelled", the physical event held annually at the Javits Center, USA, is cancelled. NYCC2020 will continue with a virtual/Online Edition - scheduled for October 8th to 11th. Below is an excerpt from ReedPop's statement found on newyorkcomiccon.com (full statement above), on what folks can expect:

"NYCC doesn’t stop just because we can’t do what we’ve done in the past. Instead, we look to the future: We may not be meeting in the queue hall each morning, but we’re excited to join forces with our sister event, MCM Comic Con in London, to bring you New York Comic Con's Metaverse, our new online portal dedicated to delivering pop culture experiences, right into your homes NYCC weekend, October 8-11.

We are partnering with YouTube to bring to life four days of incredible content from the biggest studios, publishers and creators in the business. This is your chance to interact with your favorite creators and celebrity guests, and most importantly, the opportunity to engage with other members of this vibrant community of ours. Metaverse October guest announcements, exhibitor profiles, and other information will be available at findthemetaverse.com."

Very much like the ComicCon@Home edition of San Diego Comic Con - for which I've featured on POPCORNX predominantly Media-based projects, while on the TOY-side, Super7 did online reveals, and independent artists such as Martin Hsu busted his body bring folks his #MartinHsuSDCCOnline!

On the TOY-front, folks like Tenacious Toys, myplasticheart, Martian Toys and DKE Toys (All of whom hustled hard in NYCC2019) will be physically absent, along with tons of indie artists and practitioners too ... DKE Toys has since announced that they will be doing an online edition similar to SDCC2020's #DKECON...!

Understandably geeks-events in the West has been affected by COVID-19, while here in the East, annual events such as Taipei Toy Festival (November 20-22 in Taiwan), ToySoul (December 13th in Hong Kong) and Shanghai Toy Show (Nov 6-8 in China) continue forth with the physical event, not counting the various/recent toy shows that are, and have already been happening in China .... on the home front, I certainly am awaiting the status of Singapore Comic Con (held in December last year) ... either walk the aisles with a facemask, trying to scream out the mask and above the constant thumping music (#truestory), or stay at home and enjoy a possible virtual event (IF there is any). Halls filled with shoulder to shoulder crowds is not exactly something I am look forward to, thanks - in this day and pandemic-age :(
