An exceptionally moody and neon-noir drenched OPENING SEQUENCE for upcoming animated series "Blade Runner: Black Lotus" has dropped, showcasing what we've always thought "BLADE RUNNER" felt like - to perhaps distract us from the animated trailer revealed recently (sScroll thru to view) - and it's working!
Opening sequence features the original song "Feel You Now" from GRAMMY Award-winner singer-songwriter Alessia Cara.
WHAT-IS: "Los Angeles 2032. A young woman wakes up with no memories, and possessing deadly skills. The only clues to her mystery are a locked data device and a tattoo of a black lotus. Putting together the pieces, she must hunt down the people responsible for her brutal and bloody past to find the truth of her lost identity."
The 13-episoder series is directed by Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama and produced by Alcon Entertainment and animation studio Sola Digital Arts, with Shinichiro Watanabe serving as a creative producer. No indications if this'll be a "weekly episodic airing" or a full-streaming release tho...
I am interested to see more beyond this trailer, having been spoilt by early anime incarnations (Blade Runner 2049Blade Runner 2049's "BLACKPOUT 2022" anime prequel / Initial Introduction), so this looks unappealing, to be honest (that's just my personal preferences), and the onus will be on the "story", at least for my watching expectations. Inevitable comparisons will be evoked with Disney's "Star Wars: Vision", regardless of "animation genres", methinks.
