Matt Wagner's GRENDEL as a Live Action Project for Netflix!

Matt Wagner's classic Dark Horse comic book series "GRENDEL" is coming to us as a new live action series on Netflix!

"GRENDEL" follows "Hunter Rose" (played by Abubakr Ali), "a gifted fencer, writer, & assassin who seeks to avenge the death of a lost love by going to war with New York’s criminal underworld... but why beat them, when you can join them?"

Shared GRENDEL creator Matt Wagner: "I'm especially excited to see Abubakr Ali bring the character of Grendel/Hunter Rose to life -- he has the charisma, style and vital edginess that I've been envisioning in the role for years."

No specific timeline revealed (beyond these information via @NetflixGeeked for this 8-episoder series, with Showrunner Andrew Dabb (Resident Evil, Supernatural) on deck.

"Grendel" is created by American author Matt Wagner, with his first appearance being in the anthology Comico Primer (circa October 1982), before his own series in 1983, under Comico. I remembered seeing the character appearing in Matt's other notable series "MAGE" (which I've always wondered why THAT was not adapted into live action for Petes sake lol). The character of "Grendel" first started with "Hunter Rose" under the mask, and had gone thru various incarnations thru the years, including a female "Grendel".

As a "ongoing" series consisting of 40 issues (under Comico), illustrators included the Pander Brothers, Bernie Mireault, Tim Sale, and John K. Snyder III, and quite frankly was one of the wondrous aspects of the series, as it felt "fresh" reading different arcs, very much the spirit of "independent publishing" which I personally enjoyed.

I'd also recognised I've only ever spoken/blogged about the character once in the past, and am darned to find my sole carded action figure (Thank goodness of images to remind me I still HADN one OMGlol) ... and am wondering how the character is currently in folks' consciouness/subconsciousness?

Comico subsequently went bankrupt, while there was a period of inactivity, until the ten-part series "Grendel: War Child" was published by Dark Horse. THIS was the series I am most remembered, and have always wished was made into a live action, if not even an animated series would be utterly fabulous! Shades of "Terminator" FTW! (Info Source)... And since my post on POPCORNX first featured a few days ago, I have not been able to stop thinking about "War Child", actually! LOL
