A Prelude to Singapore Comic Con 2022 @ City Square Mall (Oct 8-9)

In anticipation and promotion of the year end Singapore Comic Con at Marina Bay Sands (Dec 10-11), organisers have activated a PRELUDE to the event, hosted at City Square Mall, over the weekend of October 8 and 9.

In addition to my previous "announcement" blogpost, featured here today is a look at the event for when I visited on Saturday afternoon, October 8th, along with select press text from the organisers, cheers.

The start and tip of the display arena (also where the SGCC Ticketing Booth is at) showcased the TOYS to be had. Standalone display stands showcase GUNDAM Kits from Bandai / Tamashii Nations, that are apart of the Ticketing Bundles (Buy online here).

EVENT PRESS: Explore the rare Gundam figurine items for the first time on physical display by The Bandai Event Exclusive, a premium carrier of limited action figures, model kits and collector toys. With 2 exclusive Gundam robot figurines exclusively available at the prelude, there’s bound to be a long queue for this!

I remembered when Bandai Asia was initially apart of the annual toycon, but went their own way with their own branded exhibitions (Gundam Fiesta at Compass Point for many years), and will look forward to them being apart of the SGCC line-up this year!

52Toys was the key representation for "TOYS" at the event in City Square Mall, as well for the coming event at MBS. Two wonderful display shelves were on show at CSM, one featuring the more "cute" aspect of their offerings (video above), and as well the other showcasing the exclusive for SGCC: The Dissected MECHA MICKY MOUSE, flanked by a GOLD and a BLANK Edition, with BEASTBOX collectibles on show below. Check out the snaps featured below, and see it in person (if you can), because it is insanely awesome!

EVENT PRESS: The classic MECHA MICKEY MOUSE is precisely deconstructed by mechanical art. In addition to the mechanical joints, Mecha Mickey Mouse also has the latest electronic brain. Its input and output systems are displayed in the mechanised facial features. Each limited-edition toy has a unique serial number and a #NFC chip to verify its authenticity. Classic IP X Deconstruction Art, Explore unlimited possibilities with MECHA MICKEY MOUSE.

Learn to play Dungeons & Dragons, and Paint a Space Marine miniature with Gamersaurus Rex, provided on site! And while I'm not necessarily a enthusiast, I know friends that are, and imagine the fun they might be having! As long a way to chill amidst the throng of festivities, IMHO.

EVENT PRESS: For a more therapeutic experience, try your hand at painting a space marine miniature with steady precision and focus. Materials are provided for free and no prior sign-ups are required for your enjoyment through this art session which is suitable for fans of all ages.

SGCC has an interesting line-up of sponsor partners this year, including "OSIM" (with ergonomically designed TRANSFORMERS x OSIM "uThrone V" gaming massage chairs), as well "Blanco Court Beef Noodles" and "LiHO TEA", who'll be apart of a special curated FOOD section at the coming December event at Marina Bay Sands, to be housed in the basement. I certainly hope that there'll be adequate seating, and not just standing counters - something that consistently plagued past incarnations of the comic-con, housed at the far end of the event halls, and a place for me to eat, and charge my phone LOL

Actually, this'll make-or-break for me, and my ability to sustain a prolonged attendance at the event (I'm an old-man lah :p).

A pair of super impressive busts from Collectors Ark, showcasing VENOM and CARNAGE certainly lent both the comicbook and cinematic glam to the festivities at CSM (I took videos of, but never posed alongside them ... the downside of going to events like this alone :p).

There was a DOODLE WALL for folks to doodle on at the event, which I wished I had remembered to do so (at least leaving a "TOYSREVIL was Here"-mark :p), for which I'd asked my guide (*Waves to Jielin*) if this was to be transferred to December's event at MBS, but was reminded that the panel bore the "City Square Mall" ident LOL

ARTIST ALLEY:

Artist Alley Creators: Take a walk through the Artist Alley which showcases 14 independent local artists who will have original artwork collectibles on display for purchase. Grab the chance to have a chat with creators like BunnyAndYarn, Bobblejot and Monster Little about their adorable heartwarming digital comic characters and crochet work. With each of the items being one of a kind, take your pick from a range of apparels, stickers, enamel pins, merchandise, manga, comics and more!

The "main highlight" for me was the "Artist Alley" zone, where 14 vendors /exhibitors showcased their fanart interpretations and craft - from the adorable to the fantastical - to original designs and creations by a name familiar to TOYSREVIL: ZiQi of MonsterLittle! Look for his spot at SGCC with his TOYS! (None to be had at CSM tho, cheers).

COSPLAY:

Another huge aspect of the annual comic-cons: "COSPLAYERS"! Cosplay roamed the space, including regional cosplayers Diane Sabandeja (cosplayer from Cebu, Philippines) & Lia Bear (cosplayer from the Philippines) from Impact Fantasy (The crowd was so insane I only managed a quick flashy glimpse - they looked gorgeous tho), as well a squad of Ghostbusters (loving the proton packs), a Deadpool Ghostbuster, and the SGCC event mascot "P4L" ("pop culture 4 Life!"), designed by Might Jaxx. (P4L appearance: 12pm - 12.30pm, 3pm - 3.30pm, 4.30pm - 5pm, 6pm - 6.30pm & 7.30pm - 8pm).

What I had missed out on seeing were the Star Wars-themed "FightSaber Singapore & Kranak Clan (Mando Mercs Singapore)" . Folks might want to take note of their meet and greet sessions at 1pm and 3pm on both days.

EVENT PRESS: Tickets to the main SGCC event happening in December 2022 can be purchased at this exclusive prelude event as well. Every ticket purchased at the prelude event will be entitled to 1 spin on the Insta-Win Wheel. This City Square Mall exclusive Insta-Win Prize will run from 8 to 9 October 2022 from 11am to 8pm, giving ticket buyers a chance to win various prizes such as blindbox toys from 52Toys, vouchers from Blanco Court Beef Noodles, Cat & the Fiddle, LiHO TEA, Go Pizza and even CityMusic headphones. On top of that, the first 100 ticket holders each day who purchase their ticket in person will be able to redeem an additional $10 City Developments Limited (CDL) voucher from the event ticketing info counter at L1 Atrium.

The second and last day of the event at City Square Mall happens Sunday October 9th, from 11am to 8pm. I managed to make my way there via MRT (from the East OMG) and got lost in the Farrer Park MRT station (because I am an idiot), which connects directly into the Basement 1 level of City Square Mall, so that was a fab thing! Now to plan for December at Marina Bay Sands...

Cheers,
Andy TOYSREVIL
