astro boy movie update 2008
Tis been a *long while (*more than a freakin' year, actually!) since I had an ASTRO BOY movie-update [tagged] on TRE - and hope it would not take that long a time til the next update (partially my bad, of coz :p). Here's a primer for when the teaser trailer drops, hopefully this year soon :)
From an online interview with AstroBoy director David Brower on Imagi (click on 'what's new') - we get to see an image of AstroBoy dressed in a jersey-jacket (above), similarly in a standee (below) seen @ the American Film Market, Santa Monica (AFM) circa Nov 6th - which a teaser of the movie was screened - with new teaser logo (shown bottom).
Imagi Creative Director Felix Ip also mentions on his blog that the Astro Boy Teaser Trailer will be screened in U.S cinemas in front of DreamWorks' "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" as well as Disney's "Bolt". As much as I long for a peek, I reckon cinema bootlegs ain't gonna do the teaser justice, so let's keep our collective fingers crossed for an "official" version to go online ... *hint-hint*
Imagi Studios’ ASTRO BOY CGI feature is distributed by Summit Entertainment and will premiere October 23rd, 2009 (in North America). Meanwhile, let's make do with a 1963-version of the cartoon trailer, shall we? (Japanese version posted here / vintage LIVE-action version here!)

AstroBoy director David Brower says: "I want Astro Boy to be a really special movie, a mix of action-adventure with lots of comedy and a really emotional story at its core. It's an iconic property and deserves respect, so I don't want to give it the glib, pop-referential treatment that so many animated movies have today. Instead I want it to stand as a classic superhero origin story, something befitting the icon of Astro Boy, kind of along the lines of Richard Donner's Superman. I want it to serve as an introduction to Astro Boy for western audiences whilst remaining faithful to the lore of Asian audiences. Astro Boy is a treasured icon in Japan and so I'm working closely with the Tezuka estate to ensure I get everything right." [via/via]
