Professor Kurt Von Kessler by KidAkira
UPDATED 14.01.09: Congratulations to KidAkira for winning the contest! (Well done, Matt!)
This mad genius, once obsessed with world domination, has discovered time travel and thrust himself into the future! Now universal domination is his sole desire ~ beware Professor Kurt Von Kessler ~ Magician of time and space!
PROFESSOR KURT VON KESSLER is a one-of-a-kind custom 1/6th-scaled figure submitted for the '"Create a Futuristic Space Villain"-contest on OneSixthWarriors with Go Hero [TAGGED] ~ and is gloriously created by "KidAkira" ~ CLICK THRU for more images of the steampunked-Prof, (and you KNOW my lurve for steampunk-coolness ~ which this piece is oozing, IMHO) as well as a little Q&A with his creator :)
TOYSREVIL: What was the inspiration behind the figure?
KIDAKIRA: I love the idea of Steampunk, melding the 1800's with the idea of an industrial sci fi future. With that idea as the basis, creating a figure that was part man, part machine seemed like a natural progression. Steampunk definitely gives you that raw sense of technology where you can add a lot of detail, which contrasts nicely with the classic imagery of 1800's fashion. The era also lent itself nicely to achieve that classic villain look.....
TOYSREVIL: And looking very nicely indeed! ... aaaahhhh who am I kidding? He looks AWESOME! ~ How long did you take to complete the figure?
KIDAKIRA: I worked on the figure for at least an hour or so pretty much every day for a month. I'd say a good 40 hours went into creating him.....
TOYSREVIL: Time well spent, methinks! Are the steampunk'd parts scratch-built? Or are they loose kitbash parts? Breakdowns, please! LOL
KIDAKIRA: A combination of both really, there are a lot of kitbash parts from a wide variety of sources...Everything from Lego, dolls furniture, cogs and other internal parts from watches right through to leather shoe laces and bendy straws. Then there are a few scratchbuilt parts to tie everything together. Constructing something from a lot of random bits and pieces is a great challenge and a lot of fun.
TOYSREVIL: Candy for our optical-senses, I say! What do you feel about the result you've achieved?
KIDAKIRA: I'm really happy with how he turned out. I like the overall balance of the figure and i think there is enough detail to draw you in without looking cluttered and messy. It's interesting to see the progression of an idea becoming a finished piece. He ended up looking pretty much how I first imagined.
KIDAKIRA: Of course, when you have finished a piece it's hard to not over analyse it. There are a few other things that I had planned for him but felt they would end up getting lost or making the overall piece look overdone. Those ideas will probably be saved for another figure.
TOYSREVIL: Now that we will be keenly looking forward to, KA! :)
