The Singapore Toy, Games & Comic Convention 2009: Exhibitor Highlights (August 14-16)
Between 14th to 16th August 2009 - The Singapore Toy, Games & Comic Convention (STGCC / tagged-on-TRE) will take up a total of 6,110 square metres of hall space (almost double of 2008's 3,300 sqm!) at the Suntec International Exhibition & Convention Centre - now that's a whole lot of space, especially for booths and vendors! = *Sweet*!
But would that mean double the number of vendors up from 2008? I'm not going to start counting here (better put the effort in starting to save money to spend, methinks) - and frankly I would prefer "Quality" over "Quantity" meself (*cough*). Instead I present to you, dear TRE-readers - an "Exhibitor Highlight" on who to expect at STGCC come August! Some brands / exhibitors from 2008 will make a return, as well as a slew of new exhibitors including MINDstyle.com, Camilla d’Errico and Coarsetoys! (And that's not counting the Walk-Of-Famers Joe Ledbetter and Gary Baseman and others!)

LOOK-OUT-FOR: The local Star Wars community from Starwars.sg and Singapore Garrison members of the 501 Legion, with the support of PI Event, will be running a fund-raising programme to benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation® (Singapore).
LOOK-OUT-FOR: Among the activities planned are photo sessions with the Star Wars characters, and interaction opportunities in the “Droid Hunt” sessions. In addition to the troopers from the 501 st Legion, this year’s event will see the appearance of a life-sized working model of the astromech droid that has been in all the Star Wars movies – R2D2. Also on display will be Clone Trooper helmets that are decorated by celebrities, and visitors will have the opportunity to bid and bring home these one-of-a-kind custom works.

Camilla D’Errico is a Canadian visual artist based out of Vancouver, BC. She illustrates comic books and is also a painter. Her style is heavily influenced by manga and her use of bright colours and ability to convey intense emotions is a hallmark of her work. D’Errico has created stunning artwork for comics by Arcana Studios, House of Parlance (for Avril Lavigne’s graphic novel), Del Rey Manga, Random House, Tokyopop and Slave Labour Graphics.

Established in 1997, DEVILROBOTS are a design team of five (5) from Japan that are well known for their whimsical, yet sometimes sinister characters and designs. Led by the Art Director Shinichiro Kitai (pictured left), DEVILROBOTS specializes in graphic and character designs, illustrations, motion graphics and web design. LOOK-OUT-FOR: The local Star Wars community from Starwars.sg and Singapore Garrison members of the 501 Legion, with the support of PI Event, will be running a fund-raising programme to benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation® (Singapore).
LOOK-OUT-FOR: Among the activities planned are photo sessions with the Star Wars characters, and interaction opportunities in the “Droid Hunt” sessions. In addition to the troopers from the 501 st Legion, this year’s event will see the appearance of a life-sized working model of the astromech droid that has been in all the Star Wars movies – R2D2. Also on display will be Clone Trooper helmets that are decorated by celebrities, and visitors will have the opportunity to bid and bring home these one-of-a-kind custom works.

Direct from the USA, Italian character designer, Simone Legno, behind the cute and playful, yet sexy and sophisticated world of “tokidoki” will be gracing our shores. tokidoki started as a personal website a few years ago - a place in which to display Simone’s art and soul. In 2003, the CoFounder of Hard Candy Cosmetics and her husband offered Simone an offer to move from Rome to Los Angeles and build tokidoki into a brand to share with the world! Since then, the lifestyle brand tokidoki has featured a wide range of popular products, including shirts, jewellery, designer toys and skate decks. The art of tokidoki is also recognized throughout the world from his collaborations with brands such as LeSportsac, Onitsuka Tiger, Hello Kitty and Forinara, just to name a few. As one of the most popular figures in pop-culture today, Simone was also commissioned to design the creative concept for the MercedesBenz Fashion Week in L.A.
