a night/earlymorning indulgence of comics led me scour the www for more to feed my hunger for allthingscomics and films. and i am rewarded with a new image of the upcoming comicfilm, Ghost Rider's (starring Nickolas Cage *shudder*) Hell Cycle. *drool* and of coz the newlook Bryan Singer helmed Superman Returns. eeeee! whatz with the maroon-boots and cape, man? what the hell were they thinking? ... we shall see, we shall seeeee....

more Superman news and pictures here

a petpeeve i've always had (and am sure alotta comicfans+geeks alike) is when comics get made into film. from the printed page to the celluloid does not always make a good product. Christopher Reeves' Superman wasn't THAT great (well, maybe it WAS back then, but now? *hammy*). tho Tim Burton's Batman was darn cool (especially Batman Returns! *yumms*). letz not even mention the hams that were the nippledwonders of George Clooney or Val Kilmer, shall we? and with the new Batman Begins, we collectively hold our breaths til it comes out (images of toys and merchandizing are already out and it sure ain't looking that great lor *sigh*) and even tho i enjoyed Bryan Singer's X-Men (especially part two, more new shitte here), it somehow reeked of ... i dunno how to describe it fully ... "inertia" ... seemingly on a constant move but going nowhere - sorta feeling ... seen thru hollywood eyes and diluted for mass consumption, i suppose. Ang Lee's Incredible Hulk was basically "Eat Drink Hulk Smash" (IMHO) and even tho i thoroughly enjoyed Keannu Reeve's Constantine, it was a base-travesty of the comic. but that's just me. and if everyfilm could go by-way-of Blade and Hellboy, i would be in comicelluloidheaven!

(and to the naysayers of Blade - know that Blade was just a thirdrate-comicbook-character that bled nowhere and with this, it had proved that not neccessary with a bignamecharacter would a film succeed)

and of coz, how can we ever forget Spiderman? superb adaption from comic-to-screen, IMHO :)

and with the way that hollywood is currently raping the comics market for materials and concepts, we can only hope, with today's technology, a decent if not great comic-movie will be made! *double-sigh* :)

here's a small list of upcoming comic movies coming our screens soon (if you dun already know of them by now):

dunno if McKean can step-up-to-plate as a film director, but i sure as HELL can bet the visuals are gonna come out stunning and awe-inspiring. from the production stills, it just reminds me of the visual splendour and decay of The Cell and the seemingly magical spell of Labyrinth  ... but then again, thatz just me :)

damn. wet my pants again.

DAVE MCKEAN IS GAWD.

in the end, i am just mofograteful there ARE comicmovies made lah! muahahaha :)

and here's a few more movies (not neccessary comics-related, but who givesashitte HAH) to check out:

> Ridley Scott Is My Gawd. check out the abovelink for all the trailers, including the new internet/online version which gave me severe goosepimples and the behind-the-scenes featurette on production design. made me weep like a wee girl, it did. seriously. ... i've run out of tissue already ...

and tis with movies like these that gets me riled up and hanker to do more than just wallowing here in singapore ... and that i take comfort in the knowledge that i've made the right decision for myself to be in this line and of the hope that one day, i would be able to do alla this ... but not in singapore ... but still ... one day ... one day ... *sigh*

enjoy :)
