a xmas food chronology

:: LIFE IN SINGAPORE / FOOD ::
whilst "polishing up" my other entries (*but how can ya ever polish a turd?*, some may ask), howz about a X-Mas Food Chronology? yes im reaching but i care not *HAH* /// CLICK TO READ

:: XMAS EVE LUNCH ::
partaked of the Goodwood Park Hotel's X-mas Lunch Buffet in it's Coffee Lounge, and breaking one of my own work/personal commandments: "always recce the location first before considering/doing anything else" ... be it for a location setting for a feature or teevee-project, or even just for a nice x-mas eve lunch out *nudge-nudge* ... knowing the location first is essential ... and all i had was based on a "memory" of the abovementioned location a few months' back, during (ironically) a location-recce for a corporate-gig.

my fossilized-memory had apparently failed me yet again ... an "illusionary-memory" of the "old-world-charm"; sat beside a large window overlooking the yard, quickly gave into a mirrored and bevelled monstrousity amidst the sweltering heat that was the main dining hall of the Coffee Lounge. me beloved said the temperature was fine, i was melting.

well, decor-fiasco's aside, i haveta say; the food was horrendous. not "horrendous-until-cannot-eat", but horrendous being the only effort put into the "X-Mas Lunch" were some log-cakes and xmas-puddings. and everything else was a banal "intercontinental spread" (ie: chinese zhi-char, indian rojak, sushi, et al) and missing were the well-reputated (as too insisted by me beloved) were the nonya-dishes and kuehs ... oh well ... and for the first time (in a loooooong while) i could not finish my food. i found most of it unbearable, IMHO. im not gonna be back there anytime soon, in this or any other lifetime, im sure, thanks.

:: DAMAGE :: $98 = totally not worth it, at all.

:: XMAS EVE DINNER ::
planned for a simple "picnic@home" and shopped at Cold Storage Centerpoint, and promptly left Orchard Rd before the xmas-madness-rush gripped us *heh*

the spread:
/Mushroom Pate with Black-Peppered Crackers.
/A Slab of "President" Brie Cheese with Crackers.
/Roasted Capsicum Dip.
/Roasted Tomato Dip with Basil.
/Salty Pretzel Sticks.
/Japanese Cheese Crackers.
/New York Pita-Bread Crackers.
/Soy with Garlic Crackers.
/Roasted Garlic Soy Chips.
/Roasted Pork Slices (Bah Quah) from Bee Cheng Hiang.
/Washed down with F&N Grape Soda (my fav).
/A bottle of "sparkling champagne" :)

and this became one of my best festive-meals i've had in the longest time. *DIY = good* :)

:: DAMAGE :: $125 = totally worth it, and would've pumped in MORE (for dips lah hahahaha)
._.

:: XMAS BRUNCH ::
post-xmas inertia. slept in. partaked of some homemade cookies and finished off the chips and dips from the night before. satisfied. *burp* :p

:: DAMAGE :: $0 (paid-for already lor) = free is best! LOL
._.

:: XMAS DAY DINNER ::
down @ Pasta Fresca East Coast Park (Seasports Centre).

what started out as a "romantic dinner by the beach", turned out to be just "romantic by the beach". the food was sub-standard as compared to the other outlets. the Bruschetta Pomodoro was soft and non-crunchy, except for the tomatoes. my pasta; Prosciutto Di Parma, reeked slightly. (mayhap t'was the fettuccine), altho i haveta say, the Zuppa Mare Amalf (seafood soup) was quite yummy (altho seemingly too "shallow" and light, IMHO - will take Brewerkz's Mussels' soup any-friggin'-day!). the view and ambience (red ants notwithstanding) made up for it all. but really, that shouldn't be the case, should it? might as well have a picnic by the beach, innit? *BAH*

:: DAMAGE :: $79 = not exactly totally worth it, but the view makes up for the lack in food lor :p

:: XMAS DAY AFTER DINNER DESSERT ::
@ Hong Kong Cafe down East Coast Road.

second time i've been there. had the French-Toast with banana and ice-cream (*yummy* - F/T tastes mucho-better this time round!), a Mango/pomelo-freeze (sudden-neck-twists along with it - refreshing tho) and the prerequisite cuppa hot Honey-Lemon drink. (food images are all taken from their own website) made up for the "food-experience" prior. the hours for Hong Kong Cafe is also good, all thanks to Marc for the intro, eh? *nyuknyuk*

:: DAMAGE :: $15 = totally worth it, and would definetly go back for MORE!
._.

and as my tummy-spare-tyre-lovely-handles looms before me (and is making farnie faces at me in the mirror), all i can say is, better be watching what i eat for the coming new year's, coz they ain't gonna just disappear on me, innit? ... but to be fair, good food will always be good, while bad food and ambience will most times kill the mood for food ... hey, maybe that's a good thing too, innit? *HAH*

Motto to "consider abolishing", for 2006 = Live To Eat! (???) *heh*
