actionman 4040

:: TOYS / 1:6 ::
tis something i've been thinking about doing for a while (since im fully addicted to 1/6th - but "thinking" never really did get anyone very far, innit?), but never would've expected anyone to do this: Action Man 4040 [via] ~ looking like tis a 1/6th-customization bonanza, innit? *mondo-coolness*

"Celebrating 40 years anniverary of Action Man ... 40 artists around the world have been invited to customize A REPRO 1st EDITION 1966 Action Man ... This is an charity event, all figures will be auctioned for charity. The show will run from May 16-27 @ Blink Gallery London" [via]

(click under INTEL to have a sneak-peek at some customs)

i only managed to piece-together a single image tho (*phew*) and it sure looks good! ~ check out the list of participating customizers *envy* *drool*

*individual customs featured, discussed and commented after the jump*

dunno how i managed to miss bigshottoys' kitbash in the same crazytoyz thread ... but he's looking mighty chilled-out eh? diggin' the Triumph (something i've still yet to buy :p), golf-clubs and hot-pink mini-hifi! *cool*

..........................................................................................................................

added 16.05.06:
scan of a page (by TC of VinylAbuse) in the London Metro-article, which reveals images of customized Action Men, notably customs from Kenn Munk, Ultraman and Jon Burgerman [via] = *schweet*

altho i haveta say this: the printed-press is actually faster than the net in this instance? ~ defeats the purpose of even the AM4040-forums, dunnit? in terms of information and image "dissemination", innit? (IMO, of coz) yes, i is mercenary and wanna enjoy the images lickity-split! ~ forgive me ~ (*greedy hand twitches*) ;p

..........................................................................................................................

added 16.05.06:

VinylAbuse has a few location/exhibition images on their VA forum and it all looks peachy-keen so far ~ check back more for updates (i know i will) *hyuks*

..........................................................................................................................

added 17.05.06:

VinylAbuse forums has "sneak peeks" (courtesy of *sichi*) of the exhibits and all i can do is drool like a nerdy+needy fanboy while starring at the pics in the screen waiting for salvation from my addiction which i lurve, hence ... personal commentary will come eventually (*dun think t'would be nice to use alla his pix, innit?) = go see for yourselves, GO ... *wistful-sigh*

..........................................................................................................................

added 17.05.06:

gallery pics @ AM4040's Command forums (courtesy of *clutter maz*) = *i want more*

added 18.05.06:
and the customs are revealed! = was struck mofo-speechless just moments ago when i came across Riot68's customed-character photographs on VinylPulse ... and am still trying to pickup my jaw from the ground, while the other hand is operating me Mac, dammit!

can't seem to find/recognize Michael Lau's innit will be back to gush-on on individual customs soon (gotta go "work" - heck, i dun do this fer a livin' ya know? *HAH* ;p) ... and to think that i actually bought a coupla pseudo-Action Man-Elite Brigade figures to give it a custom-go until i saw this and reckon i'd not attempt to shame myself dammit *sigh* :p

..........................................................................................................................

added 25.05.06:
all images can be seen HERE! (including the missing Michael Lau's)

personal commentary on customized figures in time to come (even if ya dun care to read them *muahahahahaha*)

..........................................................................................................................

added 27.05.06:
both the "missing" Michael Lau and Kozik figures have turned up (what about Addict's, innit?) and can be seen in their glory on VinylAbuse:

schweet-figures, no doubt (even tho i think Lau's a tad slack, innit? "recycling designs" versus "branding" ~ another topic for another post :p)

all figures were on auction friday just, except for Glyn Dillon's and Michael Lau's (???) [via]

... i shall hold thy conspiracy toy-theories for the mo and just "enjoy" the figures for what they are ... *heh*

..........................................................................................................................

added 15.08.06:
i've had these images done-up and waiting on me desktop ever since the end of AM4040 and i reckon tis time to get them up and running (and offa my desktop!) ~ had initially wanted to link the artists webs and all, but have since decided i need toy-closure (and fast) and mayhap one fine day i might come back to link 'em, til then? *heh*

pls note: from here on in, all watermarked-S are images taken by Sichi (of VinylAbuse) and watermarked-R are images taken by Riot68.

comments and remarks are of my own personal views. they're not personal attacks, i don't like your "customs" doesn't mean i don't like you, yeh? i says it as i sees them ... onward:

..........................................................................................................................

nice lil kitbash innit? hardly a "custom" (except maybe facial sculpt and/or rerooted hair?) can't really see the detail ~ but ima sucka for the triumph-bike *LOL*
..........................................................................................................................

*hhhmmm* i geddit i reckon ... but still *hhhmmm*
..........................................................................................................................

couldn't get past the shredded-dive suit, but reckon tis still top-notch custom, IMHO
..........................................................................................................................

*super-pussy-man*? ~ need ta see the "bigger picture" is this be a part of a concept-set ... if not, mayhap it still has some chinese-anime charm lah ... somehow ...
..........................................................................................................................

this by-far rawks the entire house, IMHO. this, gentlemen, is called a "custom".

..........................................................................................................................

Clutter rawks in this custom-offering. (me and mecha is a love-love-relationship)
pink is good. pink is deadly.

..........................................................................................................................

this is so graphically-macabre, it's more "installation art" than "custom", which is not a bad thing really, innit?
..........................................................................................................................

is this meant to be a "statement"-piece? on the state of urban toys and what-not? if not, it's just pure slack-dom and a self-serving self-promo of their own branding. *frown*
..........................................................................................................................

great example of self-branding and yet an exceptional effort in customizing. and humor goes a long way, dunnit? IMHO ~ *very nice indeed*
..........................................................................................................................

dude, my disappointment has grown a new toe and thy name is Eric-So-Slack. WTF's with the blondie, innit? i reckon im missing the "irony" here, innit? *sigh*
..........................................................................................................................

another installation art piece. *a flocked-pink-shocker*
..........................................................................................................................

dunno what's this supposed to mean but am diggin' it truly. "plumber-soldier*? *piping-red-man*? good-shitte nevertheless.
..........................................................................................................................

ninja-goodness. another kitbash, if not for the head-sculpt. good design tho, IMHO.
..........................................................................................................................
< *WTF*? - there's a reason why there ain't much (if any) images of this offering. mayhap i've gotta see it up-close to judge, but hey, all i gots is this image and all ima thinking is *WTF?*
..........................................................................................................................

polished and sweet. i reckon coz he cares enuff for his own product, innit? 'nuff said.
..........................................................................................................................

i've read somewhere that this item has to be seen up-close to appreciate the work. all i can say is, from where im at (in front of a 17"-Mac-screen) ~ it's nothing but a slick-boxed artwork. Action-man-who?
..........................................................................................................................

i wanna say this rawks hard but that might sound too gay ... but it still rawks-tattooed-toyboy!
..........................................................................................................................

dude's got the iconology down phat. simple and street-sweet.
..........................................................................................................................

a very nice piece indeed with reference to Kidrobot's Dunnys (i want that helmet for "my boys") and customed-suit. *kudos*
..........................................................................................................................

love the sculpt. love the concept. love this.
..........................................................................................................................

exceptional offering, straddling a kitbashed-body with a self-iconic "head-sculpt".
..........................................................................................................................

a man of peace personified in a plastic-man. exceptional dio and decent concept. appreciating the effort, truly.
..........................................................................................................................

i've always wanted a 1/6th-scaled coffin ... nice touch with the closed-eyes ... other than that, nice coffin ...
..........................................................................................................................

a really nice and humorous piece with great iconology/branding for Devilrobots (even tho this is under Medicom)
..........................................................................................................................

upon first viewing (online) i thought this was just a reharsh-trash of M.Lau's sci-fi-offerings which i didn't really care for ... but objectively, this is a decent branding of what he is known for (or at least a portion of his creations) and afterall in the end a pretty nice custom. too bad he ain't selling it *HAH*
..........................................................................................................................

remember what i said about "mecha" before/above? well, this lil disco-dancin'-robo made me cum in my vinyl-lurvin'-pants. *rawks hard*
..........................................................................................................................

love this to plushed-bits, i do. branding and humour collide in an exceptional custom.
..........................................................................................................................

ain't feeling the kitbashed longhaired-goth-zombie-rocker-dude, sorry.
..........................................................................................................................

dude, loose the effin' beanie. i know tis "branding", but c'mon ~ there's somethings need to be said about "style", IMO.
..........................................................................................................................

hilarious concept adaptation. good effort. decent-ish result.
..........................................................................................................................

really diggin' the retro-japo-vibe. cool accessories, with a smiling action man. *nice*
..........................................................................................................................

i wanna like this, but somehow it's scaring me a tad. dunno why, just coz ...
..........................................................................................................................

somewhere somehow there's a message in there, but im not feeling it at all. *next please*
..........................................................................................................................

heavy-mecha-monkey rawks the house! *good shitte*
..........................................................................................................................

voodoo-vinyl-witchdoctor is actually not-half-bad *muahahahahaha*
..........................................................................................................................

easily one of my favs in this entire endeavour ~ great concept and execution, IMHO :) gotta lurve the baby-blue-Y-fronts, innit? *ahem*
..........................................................................................................................

big guns are good. big-black-heads are okay. i wanna feel more but i can't, sorry.
..........................................................................................................................

gaystro-boy i truly like this piece. it just screams "effort" with a clean and lean design.
..........................................................................................................................

am actually liking this cliched piece better now (than when i first saw it). at least i appreciate the effort?
..........................................................................................................................

gotta lurve the humor in this, as movie-cliched as it is ~ but it works for me!
..........................................................................................................................

mayhap i really am slow on the uptake, but i can't place the reference and the humor is mild ... good kitbash-fodder while we're at it, innit? *heh*
..........................................................................................................................
and so, yeah; ima toy-biatch, whatevah .... *muahahahahaha*

i wonder if anyone has a list of where the toys went to and how much they went for in the end-bid ... curious 1/6th-mad-minds wanna know :)

Sichi wrote an article for us in Vol2 issue 5. I think the total amount raised that night was in excess of 10,000GBP.
