getoninja's urban style headsculpts
in the midst of primarily military-themed action figure posts, i find this lil gem of a collection: OSW-board member "Getoninja's" self-made "Urban Styled Headsculpts":

*more characters and images after the jump*
(he calls them "urban cartoon style", but i beg to differ *heh*)straddling bridging the invisible thin-toy-divide between "traditional" 1/6th-action figures with the visual-spirit of "urban"-vinyl-design, with a heavy tinge of anime (ie: the stylings of Jason Sui, Tim Tsui's etc) - his headsculpts inspired and influenced by Michael Lau (and his 12-inch line; Gardenergala), Getoninja's scratch-built headsculpts are sculpted from Sculpey III clay and were made from the year before (after numerous disappointing starts and results the years prior). i'll let the images speak for themselves:

name: Radio Kid

name: Soko

name: Hawk

name: Kid Nose

name: Punk

the gangs' all here! ... currently Getoninja's considering making his own line of figures, for which i can only wish him the bestest of luck! and it'll be interesting to see where it all develops from here and sure as heck's ima gonna be keeping an eye out for him ... and so should you, IMHO :)

I dunno...these 'urban styled' 12" are all beginning to look alike. You see one and you've seen them all. I Mike Lau did the right thing and moved away from his Gardener style and did those crash test dummies for the recent Nike thing
ReplyDeletethe thing of it is that the urban-styled look might take some time before it evolves beyond the "influence" of Michael Lau (or others of said genre), until of coz if something else comes along to blow collector's collective minds away ...
ReplyDeleteas commendable as ML tried to break out of that mold himself, i personally thot the wooden dummies were pretty slack and uninspired.
but then again, that's just me and the wonderful world of "difference of opinion and tastes", innit? IMHO :)
