playtimes no more

first thing i thought when i read this opening post was: "it's gotta be an early April Fool's joke, right?" ... and so i had to bug Zaki (Playtimes editor) and this was the unfortunate "official" response:
// Dear Andy

After months of deliberation and countless meetings, the PI and Playtimes teams have come to a crossroad with regard to our magazine.

It is with regret that we announce that Playtimes will cease publication with immediate effect.  Having spent more than 2 years on it, the decision to let Playtimes go is no doubt painful but necessary as we drive the momentum with new business units.  In 2007, we will continue to focus on Trexi, our print arm (art / toy / character design books), vinyl figures as  well as our new apparel range "Dooperdoo".  More details on Dooperdoo coming your way soon.

For all Playtimes subscribers, we are offering a back-issue exchange for ongoing subscriptions.  You can choose to order our back copies in exchange for a refund.  For those that prefer a cash refund, please email us at contact@playimaginative.com and we will do the necessary.

We would like to thank all the contributors, artists, readers and the great folks we have worked with on Playtimes for their support and belief.

If there are any outstanding issues or questions about Playtimes, please feel free to drop the team an email anytime.

Regards.

now, this is the sorta "scoop" i'd rather not have tho, really ... the last published issue of Playtimes was Issue #21, ironically starting with a brand new -re-design, paper-quality and publishing schedule, it is indeed a sad passing of an local endeavour, that has gone international, and with it, a loss of a chunk of nationalistic toy-pride, IMHO ... nevertheless, good luck to everyone @ PI and keep thy toy-lurving-spirit high!
