about those battlestar galactica classic minimates

personally speaking, i've never really "understood" the existence of Minimates. are they the mutant-offspring of Medicom-Kubricks? or highly-evolved-Legos? or even blocked-Stikfas? does anyone really care? ... irregardless of intent (and my quasi-toy-snobbery), the only two figures i want out of the Minimates Battlestar Galactica-lineup are the two Cylons (*heh*) i'd wanted to say "Muffet", but am afraid i may stomp on it in the end (:p) ... to be released as two boxsets, featuring characters based on the classic 1978's original BSG-series, "just in time for the 30th Anniversary of this classic property!" 1. I think minimates are aiming for the Kubrick market, only they want to be more accessible and affordable. They realize that people want to buy Lego figures, but wind up buying lots of construction sets just to get them.

Unfortunately, because they also want to make them mix-and-matchable - something that the other toys aren't as good at - minimates tend to have a lot of loose parts that fall off easily.

Personally, I wound up bailing on the whole brand because I don't think they're as well made as either Lego figures or Kubricks.

  2. "minimates tend to have a lot of loose parts that fall off easily" = oh darn, i didnt know that! i've not procured any minimates thus far, becoz (and this i agree with you) they don't look as well made (if not "designed") like either Legos or Kubricks ... personally, they look like K.O.s in some designs, but that's just picky-me :p

    cheers, Jeff! :)
