TRICLOPS-3MAN-03

TOYSREVIL: How did the concept of 3-MAN come about?

ROBOTBOY: We're big fans of the Sucklord's work and Apeman is a collector of his fine merchandise so he suggested that we bootleg the bootlegger and customise the figure to look like an original Suckadelic piece.

APEMAN: With a name like Triclops (that's with a 'c' to avoid any lawsuits, not with a 'k'), there was only gonna be one figure that we were gonna attempt to bootleg, a He-man figure.... We soon found that bootleggin' is a lot harder than it looks, Sucklord is definitely the master but hopefully we managed to pull it off, he seems pretty pleased with it anyway! We didn't wanna do a Star Warsy themed piece but wanted to pay homage to the Sucklord and do a kind of second generation bootleg (i.e. bootlegging him rather than Star Wars).

TOYSREVIL: Bootleg'gin'-A-Bootleg-Brill, if ya ask me! Break it down for us, gentlemen - what was used and how long did it take to build up teh muscle mass?

ROBOTBOY: Ebay provided a tasty job lot of old skool Masters of the Universe figures (including Clawful, Stinkor, Man-at-arms and of course our trusty namesake Tri-Klops) which we dumped out on a table. Apeman set to work tearing them apart with his Mulk strength and we mashed the parts together with the Sucklord 600. It was sweet because a lot of the parts fit really nicely without too much reworking.

The classic MOTU underpants needed a bit of milliputting and jiggery pokery to fit snugly onto the vinyl legs but apart from that we were really lucky. We used the classic visor from Tri-Klops (which we set into 600's helmet), the claw arm and chest from Clawful and the delicately perfumed underpants from Stinkor. We kept the left arm, helmet, legs, feet and cape from the 600 figure.

We rounded it all off with a couple of coats of Cloppy purple paint and some green splats in a Suckadelic stylee. Apeman created the pack with reference to his Sucklord collection and classic artwork from his obscure collection of MOTU annuals!

APEMAN: I think you've pretty much answered everything there! Respect to my dealer down Spitalfields market who sorted me out with a vintage 1983 Masters of the Universe Annual which I've never seen before.

TOYSREVIL: Sweet! With all the customs and shows you guys are doing, where do you find the time? What keeps you guys going?

ROBOTBOY: We kind of muddle through somehow, when a project comes up we sit in front of it and wonder together about what it could be turned into. Once we are agreed on what to do with it, whoever draws the short straw (or has more free time) gets to build it. Customs are supposed to be less of a priority than our Consultancy work cos they don't pay but we squeeze in as many as we can because they are really satisfying and great promo for the 'Clops.

APEMAN: Sweets and Cheese&Onion sausage rolls keeps us going, maybe the odd pint too! It's tough juggling the day job with our Designer vinyl alter-egos but like Robotboy says, we muddle through and we love being invited in on these custom shows. The artist line-up for this show in partcular was insane, so many talented people you just can't refuse when you get invited to these things regardless of how busy the consultancy is!

TOYSREVIL: Muddling thru pretty darn awesome thus far, gents, IMHO! Are you happy with the result of 3-MAN?

APEMAN: Yeah, we're well chuffed. We think we've acheived the Suckadelic bootleg look with the custom and pack that we were hoping for. We've even spoofed all our promo imagery around the Sucklord's shop stylee, black backgrounds, yellow text and silly toy bios.

TRICLOPS-3MAN-02

ROBOTBOY: I think he sits nicely amongst the rest of the show. Some of those pieces are absolutely amazing especially the Amanda Vissell and Gargamel pieces and that Vader one is incredible! Not to mention your wicked LOTR piece duder!

TOYSREVIL: Many thanks for your kindnesses, Sirs! (altho I'm still hoping it arrives to the show on time tho *sob*) ... So what else is teh Triclops cookin'? What's coming up next for you guys?

ROBOTBOY: We have a lot of plates spinning at the moment, aside from more customs for Mindstyle and October Toys we have plans for designer toys on the backburner and a couple of more mainstream toy concepts being optioned. All that on top of the consultancy business in the day time means that we are probably on track to burn out before 2010!

APEMAN: Keep 'em peeled around Christmas time for 2 of our 3 upcoming Dunnys dropping in the UK artist series. The 3rd design is all hush hush at the mo....we've also got (hopefully) a cool toy collab with BIC plastics but we are yet to get our arses in gear and sort out a design, sorry Marco! We're on it!

We've also got a really big thing on the bubble with Toy2R which if it goes ahead is gonna be 'dead' good! We're hoping to set up a ClopShop (a first for us) to sell our Triclops toys such as the dunnys and other 'Clops products (tees 'n' prints) in the near future.

ROBOTBOY: We'll be making exclusive Dunny packs with signed bits and bobs to celebrate the launch of the series and the grand opening of the Clop Shop. Eek, no pressure that's another thing to add to our list of things to do now!

Stay tuned for more news as it happens! Cheers Mr Evil, you da man!

Easy now, Luc 'n' Rob
