PRESS: The Saddest Place on Earth visits Macau is a collaborative effort between Pinto Livros and Mimipong’s successful line of tear dolls together with creative professionals from Macau, Hong Kong and Singapore. The writers – selected from a diverse range of backgrounds – were invited to pen their unique interpretations of sadness on the dolls’ cloth tags which has been translated into traditional chinese from the original english tag. This exhibition is made possible by Singapore based chinese copy-writer and journalist, mr. Capricorn, who aided with all the copy translation and direction for the show.

Among the luminaries participating in The Saddest Place on Earth are critically acclaimed Hong Kong's indie songstress The Pancakes, Hong Kong-based toy designer of popular Treeson vinyl figures Bubi Auyong as well as Singapore's theatre director and the author of 5 publications, Danny Yeo. On the homegrown front, the exhibition features Macau's Fine Artist Bianca Lei, writer of travel guide Macau Nohohon's Misa Katawa, architect and founder of OH-MYSTORE's Ryan Leong, Sonia Lao from dream-pop band Evade and many more.

Hug Your Sorrow tear dolls are a conceptual plush creation of Mimipong. Featuring an assortment of embroidered features, each tear plush allows the user to jot down his or her most intimate miseries on an embroidered tag before giving the doll a big hug of comfort. These plush tears, fulfilling the basic function of plush toy as comfort objects in moments of despair, are a winning entry in Next Big Thing 2008, USA's Fred Flare’s annual design competition and are sold across the United States by Kidrobot, a premier creator and retailer of designer toys. The Saddest Place on Earth visits Macau is the second show by Mimipong after their first successful attempt held in Singapore's BooksActually.
