Artists In Indonesia and Covering Jakarta 7th Toys & Comics Fair 2011
Truth be told, the annual Jakarta 7th Toys & Comics Fair had never really been on my radar for all these years, and to now find out it is in it's 7th year? But all sense of self-shame is belayed by the reality that it seems more of a marketplace for toys (than your "traditional" conventions), and that "designer toys" hasn't necessarily been a staple of the event, with the current few years gaining more prominence, with the inclusion and representation of independent artists and newly established art toys folks like Plastic Culture, most of whom I had the opportunity to meet in person at last year's Munny World Festival Indonesia (courtesy of Plastic Culture).
These are the folks that make Jakarta and Bandung Indonesia interesting and fresh ~ art toys-wise ~ for me = Rock-On, dudes! I've got your backs!
Shown here are two of many group-shots at the event, featuring the lineup of Indonesia-based artists, for folks to note, and as well their works to watch out for. Some of them have been posted on TOYSREVIL, specifically for JTF ~ namely (Top L-R): Eric Wirjanata, Abell Octovan, Bowo Baghaskara, Erwin Cahyono, Arno Fauzie and David Tan (who provided us with a sweet glimpse at the show / pic above via @tomat45).
(Above L-R): Manuel Heischel of Cikcuk (in front of his plushees) with The Yellow Dino beside him (both gents representing Bandung). At the far right-end, Win of Plastic Culture is next to Johanes Djauhari of Saltnpaper [Pic via Jeffry Burhan].
