Toy-Review: OMFG! Series 1 from October Toys
OMFG! Series One (which incidentally stands for "Outlandish Outlandish Mini Figure Guys" instead of the other more explicit meaning *cough*) started out as characters via submitted designs on the October Toy forum, before the production of the M.U.S.C.L.E.-themed started due to pledged funds of US$11K from crowd-sourcing outfit Kickstarter. Since then, multiple colorways have been released via different venues, and TOYSREVIL was lucky to receive both the all-Black and Flesh colorways for a review (thanks, George!). FYI: The pack of hot-pink figurines are a gift from Daniel :)
Packed with a blister-card back and items held in place with a clear plastic tray, the SRP of a pack of 5 figurines is US$10. I would have expected a bagged-n-tagged with header-card packing, but with this blister-card styled elevates the product, methinks, at least in the realm of product-packaging.
Truth be told, I've not much memories or connection with M.U.S.C.L.E. figurines from the past, so can hardly compare or rave over the concept or realization of the product, but one thing is impressive of these figures, are the sculpts and details on a figure this size.
The most impressive of the lot are MULTISKULL and KING CASTOR - the details on them are surprisingly crisp for a figurine of this size! As well I have previously featured local-customizer Daniel Yu's CRAWDAD KID, no doubt Artist Proofs of individual characters are available from their original designers - the only exception being the Stroll character being a mascot for SpankyStokes' blog, but was sculpted by George Gaspar as a homage.
Designs for a second series are currently being seen on the October Toys forum, as folks can see the realization of the series being an opportunity to be a part of the 'homage' to a genre of toys from their past, IMHO.
