Custom Painted One-Off SOFUBI-MAN by Mark Nagata
"This version has many more subtle details not found in our normal release, hence the higher price. It is one of a kind and signed on the foot." - shared Mark Nagata.
Listed on maxtoyco.com for sale was* the above one-off custom painted Sofubi-man by Mark Nagata (*past tense as the US$150 one-off custom has since been SOLD) ... not to be confused with yet another one-off hand-paint meant for Japan's One-Up anniversary show (see below) - with BOTH of these being what Mark might have envisioned for this figure, beyond his single blank colors and recent first factory production paint!
"Sofubi-man, is my homage to the men and women who cast soft vinyl in Japan. As many of you may (or not) know, I've had a life long love affair with soft vinyl kaiju since 1973. But, it wasn't till much later that I found out more about the actual process of making and casting these types of toys. The last few years I've had a goal to make a Sofubi-man out of Sofubi ! Sofubi-man is magically sculpted by Cristina Ravenna, with Max Toy coordination by Yo Miyamoto and of course expertly cast in Tokyo by real Sofubi-men"
Although I'd have to truthfully admit, the "age spots" Mark has painted on the toy figure's "skin" left me a tad teary (I have a weakness for older folks), and that's a sensation I can appreciate, coming from an "inanimate object", beyond the notions of "wonder" and "awe" of whatever customs folks create these days = so kudos to your art, Mark :)
