Unbox Industries Releases Jack Kirby's LORD OF LIGHT Toy(s)!
Unbox Industries will be unveiling their first figure release from Jack Kirby's TERMINAL OF THE GODS at the 2019 Edition of Tokyo Comic Con (via F046-047), launched today Friday November 22nd at Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall (9+10+11), and exhibiting thru Sunday Nov 24th. "In 2017 we were approached regarding a figure based on The Lord of Light creative project by Barry Gellar and the legendary Jack Kirby. We instantly realised the importance & huge responsibility placed on Unbox to realise Jack Kirby's work in three dimensions so we had to push the limits!
After the sculpt was approved we sent turnaround images to the amazing Mike Royer. Mike had worked as one of Kirby's inkers for many years (including the Lord of Light project) and he was thrilled to participate." ~ shared Dan Willett for @unboxindustries.
"Mike's inks were then replicated and turned into 168 paint masks that allow us to create as near a perfect rendition as possible onto the figure's form. (There are still some tweaks to do but we should have the figure ready to share very soon. (Huge thanks to @theartofskinner for getting this incredible project underway!)"
My most recent memory of JACK KIRBY TOYS would be from Super7, who has since released his LORD OF LIGHT (with Heavy Metal) as ReAction figure in different colorways (one of which is showcased below)! And NO, we don't get too many "Jack Kirby"-toys, at least not from Marvel or DC Comics anyways...!
Did you also know, the Kirby's artwork for "Lord of Light" (designed with Barry Gellar) - initially made for film and later as a "proposed" theme park (see video above explained) was used to save 6 x American lives in real life, as chronicled in the feature film "Argo"?
