Introducing "THE KRAKEN", with the "Crimson Tide" being the second colorway to be released (of this) 6 inches tall resin figure, with pre-orders launched over the past weekend and since as SOLD OUT (at time of this blog-feature). Price was 6,000PHP / US$125 plus shipping.
Creator Dondi Fernandez shared that "(this) design started as a painting for a group exhibit in 2018, then I created and released the toy in September of 2020." ... and the following is a quick Q&A to get to know The Kraken a little bit better...
TOYSREVIL: WHAT actually is The Kraken? What is it's story?
DONDI FERNANDEZ: The Kraken is a mix of organic creature and mech. More of like a giant octopus cyborg...!
TOYSREVIL: What inspired you to come up with this design? What was it's genesis?
DONDI FERNANDEZ: The design came up in 2017 while I was doing effects for a medicine capsule commercial. And while waiting for the rendering to finish, I was doodling the capsule and decided to make fun of it. I placed arms, mouth and tentacles. And there it is, The Kraken was born...!
TOYSREVIL: What's next for The Kraken?
DONDI FERNANDEZ: There will be a custom show coming at the end of this month involving 35 talented artists organized by ArtToysPH. And then after that, maybe I will release new colorways which I have yet to design.
