Kidrobot Does Hello Kitty
The notion of thinking of how to start Kidrobot's HELLO KITTY vinyl toys came to a head when just this very morning, I found myself sat up in bed at 3am, with a gnawing desire to put it to it's misery blog about it! Simply put, I had personally enjoyed both the Balzac editions and Dr Romanelli edition (Doctor+Anatomy) Hello Kittys by Medicom Toy, I realized I had developed a certain fascination with the world-renowned fantasy cute mouthless cat, presented with a "twist" (most often, an "evil" twist - check out my blog-title, yo). Although the designs may not be "groundbreaking", the execution of which, is pretty darn cool, indeed.
When I first had a chance to peep at the upcoming interpretations of Hello Kitty and Friends by Frank Kozik, Tara McPherson, Amanda Visell and Junko Mizuno, I was pretty much floored and gagging for the vinyls, surprisingly so! Thinking back to the November of 2009, when Sanrio held their "3 Apples" exhibition in LA - celebrating the 35th Anniversary, I recognized Kozik's version, while McPherson's. Visell's and Junko's seemed to be brand new additions. (Sanrio also celebrated their 50th circa November 2010, with even more interpretations, this time of Kitty's friends too …) But then again, I wouldn't pretend to know the inside machinations of toymakers (but kudos to both Kidrobot and Sanrio for making this work out), and instead remind you folks of the release and signing sessions happening January 13th. Do note both Aanda's and Junko's releases go live online at www.kidrobot.com at 11am EST.
