back online
:: LIFE IN SINGAPORE / WOES ::
and so im finally back online (*smile*). a late-night troubleshoot by my brother proved successful when the familiar old desktop glared back to virtual-life ... and for the benefit of those who do care about such things (as i am grudgingly learning to ...) > this is what had happened:
upon my computer hanging a coupla nights prior = a re-boot was attempted (usual remedy, innit?). and everytime; the screen was stuck at "Login Window Starting", with the progress-bar still active but not going anywhere. this lasted for two whole days, even after repeated attempts to reboot.
googled-online remedies used (as recommeded by me lovely and patient gf), were:
[1] holding down "R", "P", "Option" and "Apple" keys, while rebooting.
[2] holding down "Shift" key, while rebooting and waiting for at least 3 "reboot chimes", before letting go.
and all were unsuccessful, unfortunately.
in the end, the entire OSX (as the cd-tray was still operating) was re-installed ... and the resultant would be that your previous folders/info would be "saved" in a separate folder within your hard-drive and named: "Previous System" (this is auto-saved, mind). inclusive within the folder are your previous "applications" (downloaded shitte), while other stuff like my msn-messenger was totally lost. (*this might vary, im not totally sure, innit?*) - altho i was lucky, it seems; coz everything else on me desktop remain untouched. my graphic and image folders etc (*phew*) ...
as for the reason for the crash, we know not for a fact, only that it might have been too much information overloading me hard-drive ... at the point of recovery, i was left with only near 215MB of space left. that was how much i had used-up in my G4. the next logical step (and something that should've been paid more attention to in the first place, i admit) was to delete shitte, backup stuff (to external sources) and generally keeping the folders organized and off the desktop. the clutter for which i was so used to, helped not in the maintenance of the Mac, apparently ~ *I am guilty*
and yes, im back online and with loads'aold news goodies :) *heh*
