Part 1: What's Happening in The Art & Toy World (Feb/27/2011)

The joy of blogging about upcoming events like group custom shows and art exhibitions, is pretty much mooted with the reality of "geography".

Being literally thousands of miles away from where the action is at, the TOYSREVIL blog is constantly at a loosing end of the reporting stick, as I can only depend on coverage by other folks, to represent said event, and the excitement it might have. And I am not talking about coverage from other toy-news website, as I have a stringent personal policy of non-lifting for at the very least 24hours (if I do in fact remember to), as let's face it, it does take effort to drop by an event and snap pics of it, instead of straight up enjoying the event and the people.

Regardless, I take my morsels whenever I am able to, and meanwhile, we have awesome studio/glamour-snaps of customs to contend with, which frankly is just as awesome LOL

Opening this weekend is a whopping three custom events (all three which would had already launched as of this post):

01. Mark Nagata's Alien Argus Custom Show @ TAG
02. Paul Kaijiu x Leecifer Show @ Super 7 Store
03. When Worlds Collide @ Screaming Sky Gallery

And while we have the exclusive reveal of Zam's custom work posted previously, Chaukoskis has posted up his collective chess-themed customs for the show, as part of a whole story dubbed: "The Queen Is Missing". I always heart a good story … Check out full images and writeup via Chaukoskis' blog post.

We've had the opportunity to see swell studio-snaps of Leecifer's work in his email (and WIP previews here), for which you can view more of on his flickr album, which also includes customizing on his own "Honoo The Flame" mini-vinyl with Super 7. Am also liking the customizing of non-traditional figurines, like plastic coin banks from the past, and something folks are picking up and use on the rise, IMHO. Great stuff!

Leecifer is in a two-man show together with Paul Kaiju @ Super 7, and more peeks can be had on his flickr as well, including this "Dissected" version of his "Partyball" vinyl with Super 7's Monster Family. And you know how I feel about "dissected" toys :)
