George Lucas in Singapore. Lucasfilm's Sandcrawler Building Opened.

"The award-winning Lucasfilm 'Sandcrawler' building officially opened in Fusionopolis today, with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, President of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy and Star wars originator, George Lucas in attendance. This state-of-the-art building will be the regional headquarters for Lucasfilm Singapore, The Walt Disney Company (SE Asia) and ESPN Asia Pacific. With this new facility, Lucasfilm Singapore will continue its reknowned animation and visual effects work, including supporting the upcoming Star Wars movies." (Reported via)

Wow. George Lucas in Singapore? The first time I saw an image on my Facebook-stream, I had thought someone made a photoshopped-funny! But in fact the legendary film director was in town to grace the opening of Lucasfilm Singapore's new regional headquarters building at Fusionopolis on the morning of January 16th. Along with him was Lucasfilm's president Kathleen Kennedy, who noted;
“When we first opened our Singapore studio in 2005, the local digital production landscape looked very different. It was relatively small, with a limited talent pool and virtually no visual effects work being done. By investing in local talent, we’ve been able to significantly grow our Singapore studio into a world-class digital production facility.” (as reported on TodayOnline / top-pic via)

Lucas is seen walking alongside Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, in the pic up top, and seen below are images of the Sandcrawler Building (All images via Forever Geek), made to resemble the land-bound vehicle seen in "A New Hope".
