lords of dogtown
:: DVD REVIEW / MOVIE ::
Lords of Dogtown is pure visual gravy only, a feature-length music video without the "music", a trio of autobiographies mashed into one choppy narrative; quick cut and slice ~ weaving in and out of the movie, like the boys on their decks ... and even tho the action shots are near breathtakingly beautiful, it doesn't hide the fact that the substance that is whole-heartedly absent from this movie; like a missing wheel of the deck, teetering sometimes on "WTF-is-going-on-here?" to "and it's going somewhere where again?" and it all climaxes when old friends become friends again and re-discover their passion and as cliched as it may be, it is the single heartwarming sequence of the entire flick ...
"A fictionalized take on the group of brilliant young skateboarders raised in the mean streets of Dogtown in Santa Monica, California. The Z-Boys, as they come to be known, perfect their craft in the empty swimming pools of unsuspecting suburban homeowners, pioneering a thrilling new sport and eventually moving into legend." [via]
with alla that said, i still enjoyed it for what was on-screen and the subtle notion of an innocence lost, to commerce and time and while i dare not parallel the boys' plight to my own, i can only envy the freedom they had, while they were n their decks, even tho t'was only on the silver screens ... and the intense colors were nice, yes they were :)
